Custodian (School)
BUILDING / GROUNDS MAINTENANCE
Key Responsibilities
Building Maintenance:
Performing routine cleaning, dusting, and trash removal.
Performing carpentry, painting, plumbing, and electrical repairs; installing and replacing fixtures etc.
Assist with school events, set up and break down including sporting events.
Building/Moving furniture and equipment within buildings.
Grounds Maintenance:
Operates a variety of building maintenance and/or lawn and grounds equipment, including
Floor scrubbers, buffers, power/lawn mowers, snow plows and/or snow blowers.
Clearing debris, raking leaves, and removing snow and ice.
Maintaining walkways, fences, and other outdoor structures.
Skills and Abilities
Proficiency with various hand and power tools used in building and grounds work.
Knowledge of safe operating procedures for machinery and equipment.
Ability to perform demanding tasks, including lifting, bending, and working outdoors in various weather conditions.
Strong problem-solving skills to identify and address maintenance issues.
Qualifications & Skills:
Basic knowledge of electrical, plumbing, and carpentry
Prior building cleaning experience
Must be able to read/communicate in English and follow written instructions
Must be able to move furniture, carry equipment and climb stairs with ease
Must be able to lift and carry at least 50 lbs.
Self-motivated, flexible, and able to work as part of a team.
Ability to be flexible and work with interruptions in a positive manner, and in an environment with a number of faculty, staff and students.
Strong communication skills and ability to problem solve. Work collaboratively with educational and administrative divisions.
Some basic computer skills.
PHYSICAL/ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS
- Exerting up to 50 pounds of force infrequently, and/or up to 10-20 pounds of force to move or lift objects occasionally.
- Ascending or descending ladders, stairs, using feet and legs and/or hands and arms. Requires lifting, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, and pulling are required frequently
- Works with standard cleaning materials and chemicals
- Work Environment: Details on working conditions, including exposure to various weather, operating machinery, and potentially requiring overtime for emergencies (snow removal etc.)
Salary - $ 17.50 per hour
Full-time, 8-hour shifts
Day shift (9a x 5p); occasional shift change or overtime hours as needed (events etc.)
