About The Role:

Family Meal at Blue Hill is seeking a dynamic and passionate Line Cook to join our back of house team. Founded in 2000, the restaurant has evolved over the last two decades, sourcing ingredients from its namesake Blue Hill Farm, the Barber family’s dairy in Great Barrington, MA; from the Stone Barns Center for Agriculture in Pocantico Hills, NY; as well as from farms within 250 miles of New York City. Family Meal began in the summer of 2021 and welcomes guests to a menuless dinner experience of shared plates.

The Line Cook will be responsible for assisting the restaurant’s Sous Chefs and Chef de Cuisine. You will deliver the culinary narrative that communicates our mission and vision to our guests, illustrating the link between regenerative farming and exciting flavor through each plate of food.

• Regulatory compliance: You adhere to cleanliness, health, and safety protocols, including knowledge of applicable fire, health, and safety codes (possession of a Food Handlers Certificate or ServSafe Certification is a plus).
• Experience: Minimum 1 year experience in a restaurant environment, or equivalent knowledge and experience with commercial kitchen equipment and procedures and familiarity with advanced culinary techniques and diverse cooking methods is preferred.

Tasks may include:

• Assisting in the standardization and execution of recipes and menus.
• Understanding dietary restrictions and how they affect menu items.
• Execution of daily mise en place lists.
• Checking ingredient quality, preparing, and assembling ingredients and dishes.
• Attending Cook’s meetings.
• Maintaining equipment, tools, and the physical workspace.
• Complying with all health department standards and practices and maintaining a clean and orderly work environment at all times.
• Performing all other job-related duties. This position requires manual dexterity and the ability to follow oral/written instructions and procedures. To successfully perform duties, you must be able to safely lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods.

The Details:

• Compensation: $18- $20 / hour
• Access to medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401K, and paid time off.
• Location & Hours: Full time position in-person at Family Meal at Blue Hill located near Washington Square Park in Manhattan, NY. Shifts involve working evenings and weekends.
