Director, Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies SALISES
The Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies (SALISES) was established in 1999 through the merger of the Institute of Social and Economic Research (ISER) and the Consortium Graduate School of the Social Sciences (CGSSS). It was created to bring together the strong Caribbean research tradition of ISER and the interdisciplinary graduate teaching and supervision strengths of the CGSSS. SALISES is therefore both a research institute and a graduate teaching entity within The University of the West Indies, and its work is grounded in the development concerns of the Caribbean region.
Although physically located on the Cave Hill, Mona and St. Augustine campuses, SALISES functions as a single institute with a regional mandate. Each campus branch is headed by a Director, and one of the campus Directors serves as University Director with responsibility for the overall functioning of the Institute. This structure allows SALISES to combine campus-based delivery with cross-campus collaboration, regional reach and a common intellectual vision
