General Laborer

JOB TITLE: General Laborer
REPORTS TO : Yard Manager and Yard Supervisor.
JOB TYPE: Full-time, Non-Exempt
LOCATION : U Pull It 49 Hopkins (49 Hopkins Street Buffalo NY, 14220).
HOURS : Monday - Friday 8:00AM - 4:00PM, Overtime and Saturdays as needed.
COMPENSATION: $16-19/hr, based on experience and skills.

Purpose: The General Laborer is responsible for safely and efficiently maintaining the yard and the surrounding facilities.

Responsibilities:

• Clear debris and trash from the yard, drop-zone, and processing area for customers and equipment.
• Perform quality maintenance of yard and recycling buildings.
• Process tires and wheel assemblies including dismounting and sorting.
• Removes and properly disposes of fluids including oil, gas, windshield washer fluid, etc.
• Use a variety of tools and machines: blowtorches, forklifts, lifts, power drills, grinders, saws, pressure washers, and water spraying equipment.
• Perform setup, prepping, and clean up tasks on-site.
• Adhere to safety regulations, environmental regulations, and company policies while performing duties.
• Must be able to work outside in the elements.
• Other tasks/duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

• High School degree or equivalent preferred.
• Being able to operate bobcats, forklifts, and loaders is a plus.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs. and stand for long periods of time.
• Knowledge of the various ferrous and non-ferrous metals is a plus.
• Quick learner who can follow directions.
• Good communication skills.
• Team player.
• Organized, consistent, and good at multitasking.
• Must have reliable transportation to work.

• Frequently required to sit; reach with hands and arms; talk and hear.
• Specific vision includes close vision and ability to adjust focus.
• Standing for extended periods of time.
• Move about a salvage yard.
• Ability to use both hands regularly with enough dexterity to safely operate basic hand and power tools.
• Ability to lift, move, and carry objects and materials up to 50 lbs. with or without assistance.
• Physically able to participate in sessions, presentations, and meetings.
• Outside work in the Yard is where temperature and weather extremes (heat, cold, rain) may be encountered.
• Work may take place in an industrial environment, with noise, dust and fumes.
• Noise level in the work environment can be moderate at times, hearing protection is provided by the company at all times.
