Industrial Journeyperson Electrician, Automation & Process
A day in this role
You start your morning reviewing electrical drawings and schematics for a new skid build, mapping conduit runs and pull schedules. By mid-day, you’re installing power distribution, motor controls, drives, and lighting in accordance with NEC and NFPA 70E, then validating integrity with a multimeter, voltmeter, and ohmmeter. In the afternoon, you join a toolbox talk, flag an unsafe condition you’ve spotted, and collaborate with engineers, designers, programmers, planners, and a project manager to keep the schedule on track. If you’re an L4–L5, you’ll also coach a newer electrician through troubleshooting a PLC-powered panel. Every day looks a little different—and that’s the point.
