Sr. Director, Software Engineering - Enterprise Data Storage and Consumption Platforms

Capital One is seeking a Senior Director, Software Engineer to work in our Enterprise Data Storage and Consumption Platforms Engineering Team and build the future of financial services. We are a fast-paced, mission-driven group responsible for managing and leveraging petabytes of sensitive, real-time and batch data that powers everything from fraud detection models and personalized reward systems to regulatory compliance reporting. As a leader in Software Engineering, you will lead the build of platforms and you'll architect high-availability that directly influence millions of customer experiences and secure billions in transactions daily. You'll own critical data domains end-to-end, working cross-functionally with Product Managers, and Business Analysts, Engineering teams, etc to solve complex, high-stakes problems with cutting-edge cloud technologies (like Kafka, and AWS services, serverless architecture). You Will:

• Lead, manage, and grow multiple teams of product focused software & data engineers

• Embrace and incubate emerging technology and open-source products across all platforms

• Work to modernize our existing tech stacks and data platforms

• Collaborate with internal teams to find areas of opportunities for automation and machine learning

• Partner with architects, product owners, data professionals, and software & data engineers to drive the implementation of new applications

• Work within and across Agile teams to design, develop, test, implement and support technical solutions across full-stack development tools and technologies

• Lead efforts to deploy new and existing applications into AWS environments and provide operational support for the applications

• Conduct design and code review to ensure compliance with standards

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s Degree

• At least 9 years of experience in software engineering

• At least 7 years of people management experience

• At least 3 years of experience with cloud-based data platforms (Amazon Web Services, Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud Platform)

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master’s Degree

• 5+ years of experience in Lakehouse architecture, optimizing data storage for Petabyte scale, enabling frictionless consumption of data from storage platforms, integrating with Data Governance Platforms

• 3+ years experience creating and maturing a Data Architecture function

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

McLean, VA: $314,800 - $359,300 for Sr. Dir, Software Engineering

New York, NY: $343,400 - $392,000 for Sr. Dir, Software Engineering

Richmond, VA: $286,200 - $326,700 for Sr. Dir, Software Engineering

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate’s offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
