Duties Description - Assisting a Bridge Repair Supervisor 2 in supervision of bridge repair crews by inspecting and reviewing the work performed by bridge crews daily to ensure instructions, work standards and safety procedures are followed. - Acting as overall supervisor in the absence of Bridge Repair Supervisor 2.- Determining the need for any additional repair and maintenance work due to unforeseen problems. - Arranging for additional material and equipment to complete work. - Reviewing and inspecting completed projects to ensure work was performed properly.- Conferring with crew supervisor concerning unexpected problems.- Preparing daily activity reports in MMS for each crew stating manpower, material and equipment used for each project and any unexpected development or delay.- Overseeing, directing and working with crew in performance of repair work to ensure instructions, plans, work standards and safety procedures are followed.- Preparing daily work report in MMS for repair project with manpower, equipment and material used and explanation of any difficulties or delays encountered.- As a working supervisor of a sub crew incumbent will be required to operate machinery, tools, and equipment used in bridge repair work. This includes but is not limited to jackhammers, drills, welding equipment, scaffolding, under bridge inspection equipment, concrete mixers, sand blasters, construction and highway equipment and hand tools.- The candidate will be required to perform snow and ice operations and may supervise a Snow and Ice Crew on an assigned shift. The candidate must be able to report to their assigned work location within one hour.

Minimum Qualifications This title is part of the New York Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement Statewide Program (NY HELPS). To be considered for appointment through NY HELPS, or 55 b/c, candidates must meet the open competitive minimum qualifications for this position. The qualifications are:Promotional: One year of permanent non-competitive service as a Bridge Repair Mechanic, Trades Specialist (Bridge), or Bridge Repair Assistant.Open Competitive:Either 1. Three years of experience * in the construction, reconstruction, maintenance, rehabilitation, or inspection of bridges, highways, roadways, or waterwaysOr 2. An associate's or higher degree in construction or engineering technology AND one year of experience as described above. Or 3. A diploma or certificate of completion in carpentry, masonry, welding, or construction from a post-secondary trade school, apprenticeship program, military construction specialty school * AND one year of experience as described above. Experience in construction of sewers, parking lots, and buildings will NOT be considered qualifying experience.***NOTE: Acceptable military training may include documented completion of United States Army 14-Week Corp of Engineers Field 12, United States Navy Construction Force A and United States Navy ConstructionForce C schools, Navy Seabees, United States Marine Corps Combat Engineers MOS1371 school, or United States Air Force Civil Engineer Force training. Training schools must accompany one follow-on duty station in said field.Important: High school BOCES or VO-TECH courses are NOT qualifying.Cannabis use is not permitted for employees in this title and assignment.At the time of appointment and continuously thereafter, you will be required to have a valid New York State Class A or Class B Commercial's Driver's License with no air brake restriction. Appointees will be required to satisfactorily complete a "one-person plowing" certification program which the Department of Transportation will offer during the probationary period.Candidates may also be qualified for permanent competitive appointment if reachable from the appropriate Civil Service eligible list or eligible for reassignment or transfer in accordance with Civil Service Law.

Cannabis use will be tested for during the pre-employment screening process and may be the basis for disqualification for employment or may be a basis for removal of employment.*For the duration of the NY HELPS Program, this title may be filled via a non-competitive appointment, which means no examination is required but all candidates must meet the minimum qualifications of the title for which they apply.At a future date, it is expected employees hired under NY HELPS will have their non-competitive employment status converted to competitive status, without having to compete in an examination. Employees will then be afforded with all of the same rights and privileges of competitive class employees of New York State. While serving permanently in an NY HELPS title, employees may take part in any promotion examination for which they are qualified.Your required educational credentials must have been awarded by an educational institution accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the United States (U.S.) Department of Education/Secretary of Education. If awarded by an institution outside of the U.S. and its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency. This amount is comprised of the base salary of $56,506 with an additional geographic pay differential of $9,000, specific to this title and location.The maximum compensation for this position is $77,630. This amount is comprised of the standard job rate of $68,630 with an additional geographic pay differential of $9,000, specific to this title and location.In addition, a Mid-Hudson Adjustment of $1,650 or a Downstate Adjustment of $3,400 may also apply depending on the location of the position.DOT is an equal opportunity employer.
