Founding Engineer

Our client, an early-stage InsurTech startup, is hiring a Founding Engineer to join the team in New York. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing the infrastructure, AI-driven workflows and software solutions that transform complex insurance data into meaningful insights and actionable intelligence.

Responsibilities

• Design and build scalable systems that convert complex, unstructured insurance data into actionable insights.

• Create data ingestion and enrichment pipelines to extract, process and structure information from sources including policies, schedules and loss runs.

• Integrate and analyze data from 100+ external sources to develop a comprehensive insurance intelligence platform.

• Develop AI-powered underwriting and risk modelling solutions that enhance pricing accuracy and improve decision-making.

• Build intuitive customer-facing products that enable businesses to organize, analyze and optimize their insurance portfolios.

• Contribute across backend engineering, infrastructure and product development as the platform and team grow.

• Leverage modern AI engineering tools and techniques to improve productivity, accelerate delivery and build innovative solutions.

• Partner closely with founders and senior engineers to shape technical strategy, architecture and product direction.

Skillset

• At least one year software engineering experience with a proven ability to build, launch and iterate on real-world products.

• Experience working as an early-stage or founding engineer or within a startup environment where you have taken ownership of complex challenges.

• Strong full-stack engineering skills, with the ability to contribute across backend systems, infrastructure, and user-facing applications.

• Experience developing data-intensive applications, including APIs, data pipelines, integrations, and asynchronous processing workflows.

• Ability to work with complex, unstructured datasets and transform them into reliable, scalable solutions.

• Familiarity with modern AI engineering tools and a track record of using them to enhance development speed and effectiveness.

• A proactive, entrepreneurial mindset with a strong sense of ownership and a drive to deliver results.

• Excellent problem-solving abilities with the confidence to work independently in fast-moving environments.
