Private Family in Water Mill, New York Seeking a Live-In Nanny / Family Assistant
Position: Full-Time, Weekday Live-In Nanny / Family Assistant
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–7:00 PM; candidate departs Friday evening and is off on weekends
Salary: $35–$38/hour, on payroll; time-and-a-half for holidays
Start Date: Flexible for the right fit
Benefits: 2 weeks PTO
Relocation: Open to qualified candidates who can reliably commute home on weekends
About the Family
A warm, easygoing private family in Water Mill, NY is seeking an experienced, proactive, and highly organized Live-In Nanny / Family Assistant to become a long-term member of their household.
The family has two active boys, ages 3.5 and 1.5 , with a new baby due in March . Mom will primarily care for the newborn, so the Nanny / Family Assistant’s primary childcare responsibility will remain with the two older boys. The candidate may assist with baby-related tasks as needed but will not be expected to serve as the newborn’s primary caregiver.
Dad works and stays in New York City during the week, making this an important support role for Mom and the household Monday through Friday.
The family values professionalism, direct communication, flexibility, warmth, reliability, and someone who genuinely views working with children and families as a career. They are seeking a candidate who wants to become an integral part of the household and remain with the family long term.
Children: Two boys, ages 3.5 and 1.5; newborn due in March
Pets: Two cats
Household Staff: Weekly housekeeper
Accommodations: Private bedroom with a private entrance and bathroom, as well as a microwave, small refrigerator, television, dresser, and closet
The candidate is expected to return home on weekends, departing Friday evening. The family anticipates that Long Island Rail Road service will make weekend transportation more convenient for candidates traveling to and from the area.
Responsibilities
Childcare
- Provide attentive, loving, and highly engaged care for the family’s two toddler/preschool-aged boys.
- Create a safe, nurturing, positive, and developmentally appropriate environment.
- Plan age-appropriate educational, recreational, and enrichment activities.
- Encourage plenty of outdoor play and exploration. The boys are active, and the family is looking for someone who genuinely enjoys being outside with children in a variety of weather conditions.
- Encourage independence and allow the children to complete age-appropriate tasks themselves rather than automatically doing things for them.
- Follow Mom’s lead regarding parenting preferences, routines, boundaries, and approaches to teaching the children.
- Support a child-led approach to learning and exploration, incorporating Montessori-inspired principles when appropriate.
- Encourage creativity, reading, curiosity, and healthy development.
- Support daily routines, including meals, naps, dressing, bathing, and bedtime as needed.
- Assist with potty training and developmental milestones when appropriate.
- Prepare and serve healthy meals and snacks for the children. The family currently uses Little Spoon and prioritizes nutritious foods and snacks.
- Keep the children’s bedrooms, play areas, toys, clothing, and belongings neat and organized.
- Communicate openly and directly with Mom regarding the children’s activities, development, schedules, and any concerns.
- Assist with baby-related tasks as requested while Mom remains the newborn’s primary caregiver.
Family Assistant & Household Support
In addition to childcare, the successful candidate will help keep the household organized and functioning smoothly. The family is looking for someone who can anticipate needs, take ownership, and identify ways to make the family’s day easier without requiring constant direction.
Responsibilities may include:
- Manage and help coordinate the family calendar, appointments, activities, and household needs.
- Anticipate upcoming family needs and proactively offer assistance.
- Run grocery errands and other household errands.
- Use the family-provided vehicle for work-related driving and errands.
- Keep children’s bedrooms, playrooms, closets, toys, and books organized.
- Rotate toys and books as appropriate.
- Restock children’s and household supplies as needed.
- Assist with planning and preparation for birthdays, holidays, guests, and family events.
- Proactively handle small family needs, such as helping purchase a birthday gift or preparing for an upcoming event.
- Receive deliveries and assist with household coordination.
- Coordinate with the family’s weekly housekeeper and other service providers when requested.
- Assist with household inventories and organization.
- Help with packing, unpacking, and travel preparation when needed.
- Wash, fold, and organize the children’s laundry and assist with other light family laundry as needed.
- Help maintain an orderly, calm, and well-functioning home.
- Pick up after the children and their activities.
- Keep the kitchen tidy after preparing and serving meals and snacks.
- Load and unload the dishwasher as needed.
- Wipe counters and high-use surfaces.
- Maintain neat and organized children’s spaces.
- Keep laundry moving as needed.
- Ensure the home is picked up and left in good order at the end of each day.

Requirements
- 5+ years of professional nanny and/or family assistant experience preferred
- Experience caring for toddlers and preschool-aged children
- Prior experience in a similar private household role
- Excellent professional references
- Legal authorization to work in the United States
- Valid driver’s license and excellent driving record
- Comfortable driving children and running household errands; vehicle provided for work-related use
- CPR and First Aid certified or willing to obtain certification
- Comfortable with two cats
- Strong organizational and household-management skills
- Physically fit and able to keep up with two active young children
- Comfortable working collaboratively with an involved parent
- Able to anticipate needs and work independently without constant direction
- Comfortable swimming and supervising children around water
- Willing to travel occasionally if needed
- Spanish-speaking is a plus
- Early childhood education, child development, Montessori, or similar educational background is a plus
