Assistant Marketing Manager

W.W. Norton & Company
New York, NY

W.W. Norton & Company is seeking an assistant marketing manager to join its College Marketing team. The assistant marketing manager will plan and execute campaigns for mature, market-leading titles, maintaining steady revenue by capturing and nurturing leads, engaging and retaining current customers, tracking campaign results, and monitoring the sales pipeline.

An ideal candidate will be an excellent writer and collaborator, with strong time management skills and the proven ability to manage multiple priorities. They will need to be able to plan and execute campaigns that span anywhere from one to five years. They will need strong analytical skills to examine campaign efficacy and work with market share data, while also using their creativity to try new engagement strategies. This role will report to a marketing research and strategy director in the college department.

Essential Job Responsibilities Include:

  • Market 5 - 10 college titles each year, collaborating with the discipline marketing managers on the macro plan but owning the campaign and its execution. These will include books for college courses as well as discipline-agnostic instructor titles.
  • Develop and execute long-term marketing plans focused on engaging and retaining current customers as well as targeting new business growth.
  • Write and schedule yearlong direct marketing and ad email campaigns using our marketing automation tool.
  • Write and administer surveys and quizzes to generate leads and collect feedback from current customers.
  • Write copy and collaborate with the design team to create landing pages, videos, blog posts, and print pieces to collect leads and promote select titles.
  • Use our CRM, sales data, and industry databases to analyze market share, maintain accurate pipeline tracking, and measure marketing campaign engagement.
  • Work closely with Norton’s discipline marketing managers to support key frontlist titles.
  • Track ROI of marketing activities and adjust when appropriate.
  • Create tools for the sales team, such as handouts and email templates.
  • Plan and host instructor-facing events, such as professional development webinars and author talks, 1:1 demos of Norton courseware, virtual focus groups and presentations, and select in-person teaching workshops.
  • Present at internal sales conferences twice annually, as necessary.
  • This job includes approximately 10% travel, including traveling to attend select discipline conferences.

Please note- this job description is not designed to cover all activities required of the employee.

Required Qualifications:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree
  • 1-2 years of college publishing or marketing experience required.
  • Must have strong time-management skills and a proven ability to prioritize tasks and projects effectively and accurately.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Highly collaborative and able to take initiative to suggest creative ideas while also willing to take direction and execute team decisions.
  • Organized, responsive, and detail-oriented, ensuring that all aspects of daily activities are handled efficiently and on time.
  • Analytical and able to assess efficacy of marketing activities
  • Highly disciplined and self-motivated
  • Demonstrated presentation skills for webinars and demos is preferred.
  • Employment eligibility to work with W.W. Norton & Company in the US is required.
