Senior accountant / accountant trainee
Standard Duties
Duties Description The Senior Accountant/Accountant Trainee 1/2 in the Administrative Finance Bureau duties will include but are not limited to the following:- Review and analyze program expenses versus available funding for assigned program areas on a monthly basis;
- Initiate a more detailed review of program spending to determine the cause of over or under spending issues;
- Prepare projections for funding, spending, supportable positions, and year-end financial status of assigned programs;
- Post journal entries, prepare reports and account reconciliation.
- Substitution - A master's or higher degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation may substitute for one year of experience.
- Substitution - A master's degree in accounting, auditing, or taxation and one year of professional experience in accounting/auditing or financial internal or field auditing, where you were responsible for the full range of activities in the design and/or review, analysis and management of accounting systems, resulting in the preparation of, or recommendations on, financial statements in accord with generally accepted accounting principles or a currently valid Certified Public Accountant license and registration issued by New York State.
- Certain titles require that you also meet the following additional special qualifications:
- Civil Service requires additional special minimum qualifications for certain titles. This title requires either a bachelor’s degree** (or higher) in Accounting, Auditing or Taxation, OR a bachelor’s degree (or higher) including or supplemented by 24 credits in accounting, auditing or taxation courses.
- Your degree must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. If your degree was awarded by an educational institution outside the United States or its territories, you must provide independent verification of equivalency.
