Technology & Operations Intern (Non-Profit)
DEPARTMENT: Administration
REPORTS TO: Operations & Program Coordinator
LENGTH OF INTERNSHIP: Spring term, depending on school credit requirements, with the option to extend to the summer term.
HOURS: Approximately 15–20 hours/week, hybrid (part in person at the CBJC office [required] and part remote). Schedule is flexible.
COMPENSATION: The internship is unpaid. Consideration will be given to candidates who secure academic credit or funding for this internship through their school. We can verify hours and responsibilities and submit necessary reports for students who obtain outside funding.
ABOUT US: The City Bar Justice Center furthers access to justice by addressing unmet civil legal needs of New Yorkers struggling with poverty and other systemic socioeconomic barriers. The Justice Center mobilizes law firms, corporate legal departments, and other legal institutions to provide pro bono legal services, educates the public on pertinent legal issues, fosters strategic community relationships, and impacts public policy.
DESCRIPTION: The Justice Center is seeking an undergraduate student interested in learning the inner workings of a nonprofit, with exposure to law and policy, legal services delivery, client advocacy, and the role of technology and data in advancing our mission. As a Technology and Operations Intern, you will collaborate with the leadership team to drive organization-wide projects and initiatives.
Key areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:
Support the development of technology and data-related projects such as:
Research industry best practices and make recommendations for improvements and build outs.
Contribute to the potential development of several new projects, including:
a case management system buildout and upgrade
development of a web-based training hub
data initiatives geared towards better understanding our organization’s impact on clients, their families, and NYC communities
Support the implementation of organization-wide initiatives including:
Assisting with the implementation of new systems or features (e.g., user testing, troubleshooting).
Support with data entry or “clean up” efforts
Preparing clear internal resources—such as guides, templates, and manuals—that help staff adopt new tools and workflows.
Provide support with lives demos, trainings, and learning labs.
Other operations and program-related tasks as needed

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & REQUIREMENTS:
Pursuing a bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience. Preferably in data science, computer science, cybersecurity, information security/technology, or relevant fields.
Resourceful and flexible self-starter with excellent time management and prioritization skills.
Ability to work both collaboratively and independently.
Excellent communication (both written and oral), problem-solving, time management and organizational skills.
Experience (or capacity to learn) essential tech platforms (e.g., Microsoft) and database management (e.g., LegalServer) skills are highly preferred.
