Deputy Director of the Bureau of Administrative Hearings (Counsel)
Duties Description The Deputy Director will report to the Bureau Director of the Bureau of Administrative Hearings (BAH) and will oversee the Bureau’s critical administrative functions, including but not limited to:
- Provide coverage for the Bureau Director when unavailable, including but not limited to assigning new case referrals, approving proposed settlements, and handling emergent program requests
- Handles a full and varied caseload
- Provide inspection and enforcement guidance to Department Program Managers and their staff
- Train and supervise BAH’s Associate Attorney’s and Senior Attorney’s, including reviewing work for quality assurance
- Supervise and train administrative support staff
- Maintain an up-to-date Policies and Procedures Manual that provides necessary instruction to both administrative and legal staff
- Oversee and respond to Freedom of Information Law (FOIL) requests
- Participate in BAH’s recruitment and hiring functions
Minimum Qualifications Law degree from an accredited law school; admission to, and member in good standing of, the New York State Bar; and six years of relevant post-bar experience.
Preferred Qualifications: The preferred candidate must have strong legal writing, oral communication, and analytical skills. The candidate must be able to work as a member of a team, possess good decision-making skills, and must have the ability to handle high-volume activities in a deadline-driven environment. The ability to organize and prioritize a high volume of tasks is critical. The preferred candidate should be a highly motivated individual who is interested in working in an active legal team environment on matters involving a wide variety of public health issues.Additional Comments *Salary Range from $127,507 - $160,911, commensurate with experience
