Software Engineer, Embedded Hardware
TL;DR — We’re building humanity’s defense layer for the AI age a nd are looking for a high-agency Embedded Hardware Engineer to design, build, and ship where software meets hardware.
If you want to invent new categories, not just improve existing ones—this is that role.
Why Sweep?
As intelligent machines proliferate into every part of the physical world, humans still lack a defense layer to ensure the systems and devices we rely on remain aligned with us.
Sweep is building that layer today. Our tech is already deployed alongside some of the world’s highest-stakes teams—from decision-makers and elite market-movers to frontline journalists, chart-topping artists, record-breaking athletes, and history-bending scientists. What we learn there becomes the foundation for a civilization-defining capability.
We’re a small, talent-dense team with a bias for high ownership, high velocity, and low ego. We care deeply, move fast, and are here to build something that outlives us.
Together, we’ll redefine cyber-physical security for the AI age.
What makes this role special?
- Be our first Embedded Hardware Engineer, shaping Sweep’s embedded architecture from the ground up.
- Gain pre-Series A ownership as one of the first 10 engineers defining standards and culture.
- Build hardware that leaves the lab and survives contact with reality.
- Operate with Bletchley-Park intensity —rapid feedback, real consequences, and deployments you might never discuss, but will never forget.
- Partner closely with software, AI, and RF engineers to deliver tightly integrated end-to-end systems.
- Influence Sweep’s core product direction and long-term hardware roadmap.
What we’re looking for…
- 5+ years building production-grade embedded systems (firmware + hardware).
- Expert proficiency in C/C++, RTOS, embedded Linux, and low-level systems.
- Proven experience integrating sensors, RF modules, BLE/Wi-Fi, or SDR-based systems.
- Deep understanding of embedded security (secure firmware, cryptography, secure boot, protected comms).
- Experience navigating FCC certification, test houses, and OTA verification pipelines.
- Startup urgency : independent, accountable, relentless execution.
- U.S. Person status required (may involve export-controlled data).
Bonus if you’ve
- Tinkered with IoT, spatial computing, or sensor fusion systems.
- Integrated cloud connectivity (AWS IoT, GCP IoT Core, MQTT).
- Deployed lightweight ML/AI models on embedded hardware (TinyML / Edge AI).
- Designed low-noise analog front-ends, RF shielding, or complex board bring-up.
- Worked in a founding or early-stage startup environment.
What you’ll do
- Build and optimize mission-critical embedded firmware (C/C++, RTOS, embedded Linux).
- Integrate advanced sensors and wireless modules (BLE, Wi-Fi, RF front-ends, SDR) into portable embedded platforms.
- Architect hardened embedded security systems (secure boot, key storage, encrypted communications, tamper resistance).
- Lead hardware bring-up —from schematic review to bench testing, debugging, and validation.
- Conduct rigorous lab and field testing in hostile or noisy environments (~10–15% travel)
- Support regulatory and certification workflows (FCC/CE testing, OTA signing, verification).
- Work closely with product and field teams to ensure hardware improves with real-world use.
