About The Role

The Network Engineer Intern will focus on build-out and support of the The New York Times corporate and datacenter networks involving routing/switching, security, monitoring and NMS technologies supporting Web presence. You will be responsible for the design, implementation, documentation, analysis, testing and operations of these networks to ensure that customer needs are met.

Responsibilities

• Independently research and provide both business and technical solutions based on and related to customer needs and specifications and deploy them into our production infrastructure.
• Monitor, test and analyze the existing network environment and optimize it based on resiliency, technological advancements and cost
• Responsible for day-to-day implementations and operational issues.
• Document system maintenance, enhancements and performance for effective network operations and management
• Be part of an on-call rotation to monitor, analyze and resolve critical networking issues and incidents, including on an emergency basis
  
  

Basic Qualifications

• Experience systematically troubleshooting issues
• Experience documenting design and plan implementations
• Experience working in a team-oriented environment
  
  

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with scaling automation networks and tools
• Experience with scripting languages
• Experience with Linux command line environments
• Experience with routing and switching technologies in datacenter networks
• An understanding of the TCP/IP protocol suite
• Understanding of tunneling technologies
• Understanding of Routers and Switches
• Understanding of firewall technologies
• Understanding of Load Balancing Technologies
• Understanding of WiFi technologies
• Conceptual knowledge of BGP, OSPF, IGMP, PIM & RSTP/MSTP
