Department Profile
The ISG Division is comprised of Equity, Fixed Income, Capital Markets, Investment Banking and Research. Professionals in the Division assess and actively manage risk, trade securities and structure, as well as execute innovative transactions in the fast-paced and constantly changing global markets.
Morgan Stanley’s Institutional Securities Group is looking for a Vice President to join the First Line Central Risk team. The Central Risk team is focused on centralization, standardization, and streamlining of risk management activities across ISG Business Units. The team covers several risk areas including Operational, Third Party, Electronic Trading, Regulatory and Audit, Conduct and Compliance, Client, Product, Financial Crime, Data, Info Security and Cyber, Model and Trader Mandate, and Sustainability.
This role will focus specifically on governance of Operational Risk and Resilience cross-divisional activities.
Role Description
Oversee the risk management practices across the different Institutional Securities businesses to ensure practices are consistent and effectively support business growth initiatives by setting standards, establishing adequate controls and integrity of the Operational Risk systems and processes.
Specifically:
- Perform ongoing monitoring and reporting of Operational Risk incidents across ISG and ensure timely escalation, including performing issue and incident analysis, lessons learned and remediation recommendations
- Provide thought leadership and subject matter expertise on lessons learned, risk event analysis, and continuous improvement efforts
- Lead cross-functional initiatives that enhance risk management practices, governance effectiveness, and organizational resilience
- Partner with Firmwide teams and ISG Business Control Unit to ensure programmatic requirements across Operational Risk, Resilience and other Firmwide programs impacting ISG, are fit-for-purpose, include our requirements and are implemented consistently across ISG Business Units globally
- Lead scenario-based exercises and tabletops for the division on a range of risks, including impact of external events (e.g., impacts from changes to the regulatory, political or economic climate)Support senior management decision-making through risk insights, challenge, and strategic advisory activities
- Monitor consistency and materiality of key risk indicators and determine appropriate actions required, escating as necessary
Success Criteria and Qualifications

- Strategic thinker with the ability to partner effectively across business units, regions, and lines of defense, including senior management
- Strong execution and project management skills, with a proven ability to drive outcomes and deliver against critical deadlines
- Ability to navigate competing priorities and stakeholder expectations in a dynamic, fast-paced environment
- Strong understanding of the business, operational risk, and regulatory landscape, with the ability to assess implications and emerging developments
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and present complex topics clearly and succinctly to senior audiences
- Highly organized and detail-oriented, with strong judgment, professionalism, discretion, and integrity
Qualifications:
- 5-10 years of related work experience in risk management functions
- Bachelor’s degree required; MBA or M.S. in related field preferred
- A strong understanding of the front-office processes is preferred, particularly
- Operational Risk governance
- Operational Resilience programs and exercises
- Scenario based exercise management

Expected base pay rates for the role will be between $150,000 and $250,000 per year at the commencement of employment. However, base pay if hired will be determined on an individualized basis and is only part of the total compensation package, which, depending on the position, may also include commission earnings, incentive compensation, discretionary bonuses, other short and long-term incentive packages, and other Morgan Stanley sponsored benefit programs.
