Reporting to the Coordinator of the Aviation Maintenance Technology (AMT) Program, the incumbent will serve as the manager for the AMT toolroom at the Dutchess County Regional (HVR) Airport including: repair and maintain tools and equipment; check-in/check-out tools and equipment; keep timely records; and maintain the toolroom in a clean and orderly condition. The selected individual should expect to have responsibilities that span DCC locations, although the primary workstation will be at DCC@HVR Airport. ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES The role and responsibilities of the Technical Specialist - AMT Toolroom include: 1. Check out tools, equipment, and supplies to student, faculty, and staff in assigned lab and classroom areas; 2. Operate specialized hand and power tools and equipment in accordance with health and safety regulations; 3. Maintain records related to materials issued, inventory, and stock control; 4. Repair, adjust, calibrate, and ensure proper operation of tools and equipment used in assigned areas; 5. Refer major repairs to supervisor or technical personnel as appropriate; 6. Maintain tool and equipment storage areas in a clean and orderly condition; 7. Recommend new tool/equipment courses and procedures as needed; 8. Assist in budget preparation for tools and equipment; 9. Assist in ordering tools, equipment, and supplies; 10. Maintain current knowledge of new equipment and technological advances related to tools and equipment used; 11. Additional duties as assigned by supervisor. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Operation, use, and maintenance of tools and equipment used in aviation, industrial, or automotive maintenance/operations facility;
- Knowledge of inventory control procedures
- Proficient in record-keeping techniques
- Demonstrated knowledge of methods, tools, and materials used in the repair and maintenance of relevant equipment
- Experience in proper methods of storing equipment, materials, and supplies
- Demonstrated understanding of relevant health and safety regulations, including the safe and proper use and storage of hazardous and toxic substances
- Understand and follow oral and written directions
- Demonstrated ability to work with and support a diverse population of students, instructors, and staff
- Ability to work in a fast-paced work environment
- Excellent interpersonal communication and project management skills
- Dedication to ongoing professional development to stay relevant in industry knowledge, training, and coursework
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent
- At least one year of experience in stock work, including the operation and repair of equipment and tools
- Ability to work independently, problem solve, and innovate within the context of an academic organizational structure
- Strong communication, organizational and interpersonal skills, and a collaborative approach to working with students and colleagues
- Demonstrated experience with procurement practices and internal controls for inventory management.
- Knowledge in aviation, automotive, or manufacturing tools and machine operations
- Experience working at a community college
- A commitment to diversity and an understanding how diversity impacts learning and instruction
WORKING CONDITIONS
- The performance of this work is primarily in-person and on-site
- Flexible hours may be necessary
- Some travel will be necessary
- Must have the ability to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time while operating, setting up, or repairing equipment
- Must be able to retrieve a variety of tools and equipment at varying heights within the work area, including objects above shoulder height
- Will need to lift and carry objects up to 35 lbs.
- Must be able to employ hand and finger dexterity to grab, twist, and screw small components
- May be exposed to a variety of chemicals, solvents, and fumes
