Program CoordinatorFirst Responder Peer Support Services
The incumbent is serving in this position under approval pursuant to Section 211 of the Retirement and Social Security Law. In order to determine if there is sufficient basis for a new request for the incumbent, Orange County is conducting a public inquiry as to the availability of qualified non-retired persons for recruitment. The work involves being responsible for coordination of the Countywide Peer Support Program. The Peer Support Program Coordinator will be a supervisor who will function as the primary liaison between the Peer Support Team Members, the program clinical advisor and the Deputy Commissioner of Emergency Services Police Services Division. This position reports to the Deputy Commissioner of Emergency Services Police Services Division. Does related work as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Either:A)Bachelors degree* (or higher) in Community and Human Services, Social Work, Psychology, Communications, Counseling, Sociology, Nursing, Education or related field and four (4) years of paid employment or volunteer service as a Police Officer, Firefighter, Corrections Officer, EMT or Public Safety Dispatcher (or similar title) which shall have included first responder supervisory experience or peer support coordinator experience; including critical incident stress debriefing, group and individual crisis intervention and/or suicide prevention, intervention and postvention training; ORB. An Associates Degree* or Completion of sixty (60) college credits in a major as listed in (A) and six (6) years experience as listed in (A). Note: Your degree or credit hours must have been awarded by a college or university accredited by a regional, national, or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education. For those qualifying due to rank as Lieutenant or Captain in the NYS Police, the applicant will be required to show that interaction and cooperation with local police departments is/was an integral part of their work as a Lieutenant or Captain.
