Job Description

The Phlebotomist provides expertise in blood draws and specimen preparation. Their ability to put patients at ease and obtain sufficient samples with minimal discomfort to patients across a wide demographic is critical to our commitment to high quality care for our patients and those of our partners.

Responsibilities

• Perform blood draws, label specimens, centrifuge specimens, record maintenance data, and decontaminate equipment.

• Collect and store specimens according to established procedures.

• Explain the process of venipuncture and other specimen collection methods clearly and courteously.

• Demonstrate techniques using straight needles and/or butterfly needles.

• Fully understand and execute all physicians' orders.

• Match laboratory requisition forms to specimen tubes; label, centrifuge, split, and freeze specimens as required by test orders.

• Verify all test requisitions or computer labels against script to ensure accuracy.

• Package specimens for transport and store samples according to required temperature and protocol.

• Comply with OSHA and DEP regulations.

• Wear appropriate attire during work hours.

• Attend annual department training sessions.

• Answer telephone calls and read laboratory results to address inquiries.

Essential Skills

• Proficiency in phlebotomy and blood draw techniques.

• Experience with straight needles.

• Ability to process specimens efficiently.

• Strong administrative skills and attention to detail.

• 2-3 years of experience in blood drawing.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience with pediatric blood draws is advantageous.

Work Environment

The position is based in White Plains, working Monday to Friday from 9am to 2pm, with rotating Saturdays from 9am to 2pm. This role is ideal for candidates who enjoy a change of scenery and in-state travel. The position does not require working on holidays or during vacation periods.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of White Plains, NY.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $23.00/hr.
