St. John Fisher University is an independent, liberal arts institution that provides a transformative education to approximately 3,800 undergraduate, master’s, and doctoral students each year. Job Responsibilities

We are seeking an enthusiastic and passionate tenure-track Assistant Professor of Accounting for our AACSB accredited business school in Rochester, NY with an anticipated August 2026 start date. The School of Business at SJF, embraces the teacher – scholar model. Faculty are expected to be actively engaged with the local business community and with research in their respective fields of study, and through that, help prepare our students to be Day 1 Ready business professionals who will meaningfully impact their organization, communities, and society.

The successful candidate will be a dynamic individual who enjoys working in a fast-adapting, multidisciplinary environment and who shows enthusiasm for collaborating with colleagues within the department and school as well as across disciplines.

Tenure-track faculty in the Department of Accounting and Finance carry a three-three teaching load. They are expected to be effective, innovative, and committed teachers and active researchers. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in multiple modalities (i.e., in person, online, and hybrid).

The successful candidate is expected to engage in scholarship to build and maintain a strong publication record, produce original research for publication in quality peer-reviewed journals. The candidate is also expected to advise students and perform service to the University and the profession. The candidate will have the following responsibilities:

  • Teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate accounting courses in the areas of financial and managerial accounting and business/accounting analytics
  • Conduct and publish original, discipline-based scholarship in refereed journals to enable ongoing classification as “Scholarly Academic” under the guidelines of AACSB International.
  • Maintain an active research agenda.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with students, advising and mentoring them as they progress through their studies.
  • Participate in the development and implementation of new courses and programs along with initiatives aimed at improving student outcomes, the student experience, and the overall quality of the business school.
  • Introduce new teaching techniques, assess student learning, and evaluate student progress.
  • Engage and motivate students through interactive techniques, experiential learning, and other innovative teaching practices.
  • Collaborate with other faculty members, staff, and alumni to promote the mission of the School of Business and foster relationships with the business community.
  • Provide service to the Department, School, and University as well as to the academic, professional, and surrounding communities.
  • Share expertise with the academic and business communities through presentations, articles published in the trade press, white papers, etc.
  • Assist with student recruitment and retention initiatives.


Education / Experience

Required Qualifications

  • A terminal degree in Accounting or related field from an accredited institution. ABD candidates will be considered if the degree is expected to be completed by August 31, 2026.
  • A strong commitment to teaching excellence.
  • Evidence of research and publication potential in discipline-based peer-reviewed journals.
  • Ability to provide proof of permanent right to work in the US on first day of employment.

Preferred Experiences

  • CPA, other related professional certifications (e.g., CMA), or practical experience in related fields of business.
  • Experience teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels
  • Experience incorporating data analytics and accounting information systems into courses.
  • Real-world expertise in relevant areas of business will be considered, and preference will be given to faculty with teaching, consulting, or corporate experience in one or more of the following areas: business analytics, business intelligence, digital management, quantitative management tools, IT strategy, Agile delivery methodology or cloud migration.

  • Proficiency in technology (e.g., Microsoft Office, learning management systems, instructional technologies, accounting software, statistical/data analytics tools, etc.)
  • Ability to conduct original research and maintain AACSB academic qualification (scholarly academic).
