Job Summary
An English as a New Language (ENL) Teacher with Primary Hall is responsible for providing specialized instruction and fostering the development of essential skills for who are identified as English Language Learners (ELLs). This role involves creating a positive and engaging classroom environment, implementing age-appropriate instructional methods, and supporting the social and emotional growth of students. You are charged with ensuring that each Primary Hall student is educated in a rigorous and joyful learning environment. With a team of like-minded educators, you will be supported to provide high quality instruction and grow as a teacher and leader.

Essential Job Functions
- Deliver direct ENL instruction aligned with New York State Next Generation Learning Standards and NYS CR Part 154 regulations
- Provide both stand-alone (pull-out) and integrated (push-in) language instruction in collaboration with classroom teachers
- Develop and implement differentiated lesson plans based on students' English proficiency levels (Entering, Emerging, Transitioning, Expanding, Commanding)
- Support content-area instruction (ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies) through language scaffolding strategies
- Implement age-appropriate behavior management strategies to ensure a safe and respectful atmosphere.
- Conduct regular assessments to monitor student progress and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
- Manage student behavior effectively and promote a culture of respect and cooperation.
- Deliver engaging and differentiated instruction to address the diverse learning needs of students.
- Focus on building foundational literacy and numeracy skills through creative and interactive teaching methods.
- Implement activities that promote early reading, writing, and basic math skills.
- Upholds a values-based approach to maintain a positive culture among students and staff.
- Implement strategies to teach social skills, cooperation, and conflict resolution.
- Participates and engages in individual coaching meetings, Professional Development, and Summer Professional Development with a positive attitude and growth mindset.
- Collaborate with general education and special education teachers and support staff to address the needs of students with diverse abilities.
- Participate in Individualized Education Program (IEP) meetings as necessary.
- Administer and analyze assessments including NYSESLAT and ongoing formative assessments
- Enforce school policies and maintain discipline in accordance with the school's guidelines.
- Perform administrative tasks as required such as attendance, grades, and reports.
- Provide assistance and support to students in understanding the subject matter.
- Maintain accurate and complete records of student progress and development.
- Update records accurately and completely as required by laws and district policies.
- Supervise students during class and other activities to ensure their safety and well-being.
- Foster a positive and supportive classroom culture that promotes social and emotional development.
- Monitor behavior and address any issues that may arise among students.
- Uphold a high level of professionalism in all interactions with students, staff, and parents.

Qualifications, Education, and Experience
- Minimum requirement of a bachelor's degree (at the time of employment minimum average GPA of 2.75) or Master's degree in TESOL, Education, or related field preferred.
- Valid New York State teaching certification or licensure..
- Valid New York State Teaching Certification in ESOL (K-12)
- 2 years teaching in an urban public school (traditional or charter) preferred but not required.
- Specialized training in early childhood education is a plus.
- Familiarity with NYS Part 154 regulations and ENL compliance requirements.
- Knowledge of second language acquisition theory and culturally responsive teaching practices
- Patience, flexibility, and a passion for working with young children.
- Positive attitude.
- Flexibility and willingness to take initiative.
- Strong classroom management skills and the ability to create an inclusive learning environment.
- Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
Working Conditions
Classroom and Office setting, the noise level in the work environment(s) is relatively quiet.
Cognitive and Physical Demands
- Daily/consistent: Standing, sitting, computer work, screen time, keyboarding, typing, wrist flexing/extension and other repetitive movements and lifting (up to 20 pounds).
- Daily/consistent: Use of professional judgement in alignment with Primary Hall values and policies, ability to communicate effectively verbally and written, and to complete projects with minimal assistance and supervision.
