Rolling Stock Mechanical Build Specialist
Are you ready to build what America will ride next?
Imagine helping stand up a brand‑new manufacturing site in Horseheads, NY—nearly 300,000 square feet devoted to producing the nation’s first domestically built high‑speed trains. That’s the opportunity at Siemens, a company that has shaped U.S. transportation for over 160 years.
What challenge will you take on?
As a Mechanical Build Specialist, you’ll turn engineering intent into rolling stock reality. You will assemble mechanical structures and pneumatic piping systems, interpret complex documentation, and set the craftsmanship standard for a world‑class product.
How you’ll contribute
- Translate drawings, BOMs, and work instructions into precise assemblies.
- Install, route, and secure pneumatic lines and mechanical components to spec.
- Operate hand and power tools safely; secure certifications for crane, forklift, and fall protection where required.
- Document your work—labor hours, work orders, and quality records—without fail.
- Hit quality, schedule, and labor targets with minimal supervision while mentoring peers on best practices.
- Champion a safety‑first culture by following PPE and shop requirements.
What you’ll need
- High school diploma or GED.
- English reading and verbal communication skills.
- Comfort reading and writing instructions, memos, and technical documents.
- Foundational mechanical/technical know‑how.
- Motivation to work independently and collaborate within small teams.
What sets you apart
- Fluency with metric measurements.
- 3–5 years building heavy vehicles or equipment (trucks, military equipment, aircraft, ships, etc.).
- Ability to read pneumatic piping schematics.
- Hands‑on experience with stainless‑steel tube cutting, bending, soldering, and related connections.
Work environment
- Frequent walking; reaching; stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling.
- Climbing stairs, steps, and ladders is common.
- Tasks on elevated platforms and overhead work are part of the job.
- Lift/move up to 40 lbs.
- Visual demands include near/far, color, peripheral, depth, and focus.
- Be prepared for non‑climate‑controlled spaces and occasional inclement weather exposure when required.
- Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential job functions.
Grow with Siemens
- Start with PTO and holiday pay on day 1.
- 6% company match on your 401(k).
- Medical, Dental, Vision, HSA/FSA, and Commuter Benefits effective day 1.
- Competitive total rewards and a pioneering, tech‑forward culture.
- Tuition reimbursement, mentorship programs, and online learning to elevate your career.
- Idea programs, employee discounts, and more.
