Applications Engineer

SUMMARY:
We are seeking an experienced Applications Engineer to support the development, integration, and optimization of electronic control and lighting systems for fire apparatus and emergency vehicles. This role requires a strong background in ladder logic programming, CAN protocol, and multiplexing systems, with hands-on experience in vehicle electrical systems and control architectures.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Design and develop control logic using ladder logic, structured text, and/or function block diagrams for vehicle automation and lighting control.
- Integrate and troubleshoot CAN-based multiplexing systems (e.g., J1939, proprietary protocols) for emergency vehicle applications.
- Work closely with OEMs, upfitters, and engineering teams to define application requirements and implement tailored solutions.
- Interpret electrical schematics and develop system architecture documentation and wiring diagrams.
- Support field installations, diagnostics, and issue resolution across customer platforms.
- Interface with product management and sales to align system capabilities with customer needs.
- Conduct training and create technical documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 3+ years of experience in vehicle electronics, preferably within fire, EMS, or utility vehicle markets.
- Proficiency in ladder logic programming.
- Deep understanding of CAN protocol, including J1939 and CANopen; ability to use CAN analyzers.
- Hands-on experience with vehicle automation/multiplexing systems.
- Strong knowledge of 12V/24V vehicle electrical systems and components.
- Ability to travel to customer sites for system commissioning or support.
PREFERRED SKILLS:
- Experience with fire and emergency vehicle standards (e.g., NFPA 1901).
- Understanding of EMI/EMC considerations in vehicle applications.
- Experience with HMI displays, I/O modules, and diagnostic tools.

New York Salary range: $90,000-120,000 USD
