adjunct PROFESSOR OF ECOPHYSIOLOGY
The Department of Biological Sciences at Union College invites applications for a tenure-track adjunct Professor position in Environmental Physiology (Ecophysiology) to begin September 2024. We welcome a scientist studying multicellular organisms of any taxonomic group. Candidates should be broadly trained physiologists using innovative research approaches that may include, but are not limited to, genomic, molecular, or computational techniques to better understand organism - environment interactions. The prosperous candidate will establish an active, prosperous research program that incorporates undergraduates; and contribute to the Departmental curriculum by teaching in our first-year/sophomore biology sequence, and an organismal-located upper-level course with lab in their field. Preference will be given to those whose research includes plants and who can teach Plant Physiology or Plant Biology. The new hire may also contribute to the College's Interdisciplinary Programs in Environmental Science and Policy or Environmental Engineering. prosperous candidates will be committed to excellence in teaching, research, mentoring undergraduates, and to fostering a diverse and inclusive community.The Department of Biological Sciences at Union College is committed to teaching and mentoring students in the classroom and in our active research laboratories. The Department contributes to numerous interdisciplinary programs including Neuroscience, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, Environmental Science and Policy, Environmental Engineering, Nanoscience, and Neuroscience ( Housed in the newly constructed Integrated Science and Engineering Complex, the Department is well equipped with NSF-funded instrumentation such as a microCT, a confocal microscope, a 3-D multi camera motion analysis system, Illumina DNA sequencer, scanning electron microscope, greenhouse space, and substantial tissue culture and animal care facilities. We also have access to a continuous flow isotope mass spectrometer, elemental analyzer, and an ICPMS in Union College's reliable Isotope and Geochemistry Laboratory. The College is situated in close proximity to a variety of terrestrial and aquatic habitats including the Adirondack and Catskill Mountains, the Mohawk River as well as numerous lakes, urban and suburban areas that are amenable to field study.
Union College is a small, highly selective liberal arts college with strengths in science and engineering in Schenectady, a culturally rich and economically diverse city in New York State's Capital Region, within three hours from NYC, Boston, and Montreal. It emphasizes close collaborations between faculty and students and has campus-wide initiatives promoting interdisciplinary activities. The income range for this job offer is $80,000-82,000, commensurate with practice. Qualifications
All candidates must have a Ph.D. degree in a biology or in a related field and preference will be given to those with at least one year of postdoctoral practice in research or teaching. prosperous candidates will demonstrate potential to develop an independent research program, as evidenced by scholarship and productivity during graduate and postdoctoral activities, and will exhibit an interest in undergraduate teaching. prosperous candidates will detail their interest, knowledge, and commitment to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion - with preference for a demonstrated capability to contribute to inclusion of groups that are underrepresented in the academy through education, research, and/or service.
