Sales Representative
Hana Makgeolli is an artisanal Korean rice wine producer based in Brooklyn, NY. We craft traditional Korean sool with organic rice and time honored fermentation methods, with the goal of bringing this category to a global stage. We believe Korean sool has the depth, in its history, technique and flavor to be a beloved category globally. This is an opportunity to be on the front lines of that movement, helping shape how Korean alcohol is experienced, understood, and appreciated in the U.S.
The Opportunity
We are looking for a driven, relationship-oriented sales professional to help grow Hana Makgeolli’s presence in our core markets.This role is primarily focused on field sales and brand building in New York, while also supporting broader market growth through close collaboration with our distributor partners across active territories.
You will play a key role in expanding sales, building account relationships, and representing Hana Makgeolli in the market, while gaining firsthand experience building a new category from the ground up.
What You’ll Do
Drive Sales & Account Growth
- Open new on- and off-premise accounts and grow existing relationships
- Maintain a consistent schedule of account visits, tastings, and follow-ups
- Achieve weekly and monthly sales goals through thoughtful, relationship-driven selling
Build Relationships in Market
- Develop strong relationships with buyers, beverage directors, and retail partners
- Support accounts with, menu placements, pairings and pricing
- Deliver a high level of responsiveness to account accounts
Support Distributor Execution
- Work closely with distributor partners to support placements and depletions
- Participate in work-withs and sales initiatives
- Help ensure strong communication and alignment in-market
Brand Representation & Education
- Lead tastings, in-store and on-premise activations
- Represent Hana Makgeolli at events, collaborations, and community gatherings
- Share the story, methodology, and cultural context of Korean sool with accounts and consumers
Sales Planning & Reporting
- Track account activity, pipeline, and sales performance
- Share insights from the market, including customer feedback and competitive activity
- Contribute to promotional ideas and initiatives that drive sell-through
Support Market Expansion
- Support distributor partners remotely across active territories
- Assist with new market opportunities and account outreach as needed
- Contribute to building a strong foundation for long-term growth
Who You Are
- A strong relationship builder who enjoys connecting with people and building trust
- Self-motivated and comfortable working independently in a fast-paced environment
- Extremely organized and both proactive and consistent in follow-through
- Excited to grow with an early-stage company and take on increasing responsibility over time
- Curious about fermentation, food & beverage, and emerging categories
Qualifications
- 2 years of experience in sales, hospitality, or beverage alcohol
- Experience working with restaurants, bars, or retail accounts preferred
- Strong communication and presentation skills
- Ability to manage a schedule of in-person meetings and market visits
- Familiarity with distributor systems or beverage alcohol sales is a plus
Preferred:
- Existing relationships in NYC hospitality or retail
- Experience with premium or craft beverage brands
- Professional interest in Korean food, beverage, or culture
Compensation & Perks
- Hourly Base: $25/hour, approximately 30 hours a week
- Commission: 6% on sales, with potential increases based on performance and KPI achievement
- On-Target Earnings: Approximately $45,000–$60,000+ annually or more depending on performance
