About Real Dads Network

Real Dads Network is a nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening families by empowering fathers. For over 20 years, we’ve led the movement to uplift the image and impact of Black and Brown fathers through cultural programs, educational workshops, public events, and direct support services. Our programs focus on parenting, health and wellness, community engagement, and personal development—always centering fathers as essential agents of change in their families and communities.

Position Overview

Real Dads Network is seeking a committed and community-driven Peer Mentor to join our team part-time. The Peer Mentor will play a central role in conducting outreach to fathers throughout East Harlem and surrounding communities. The ideal candidate is a father or father figure who brings lived experience, empathy, and the passion to connect with other dads where they are—at barbershops, basketball courts, playgrounds, and community events.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in the community, enjoys meeting people, and wants to make a direct impact by helping fathers feel seen, supported, and connected to Real Dads Network programs and services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct consistent and strategic outreach throughout the community to connect with fathers, distribute materials, and build awareness of program and services.
  • Supporting fathers navigating visitation and parenting challenges
  • Helping to plan and lead community projects.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with local partners, organizations, and informal community leaders to strengthen referral networks.
  • Invite and encourage fathers to attend events, workshops, and support groups.
  • Follow up with interested individuals to ensure program engagement and retention.
  • Facilitate or co-facilitate peer discussion groups and one-on-one mentoring opportunities when needed.
  • Share relevant resources with fathers related to parenting, employment, wellness, and support services.
  • Track outreach activities and engagement metrics for internal reporting.
  • Participate in training, team meetings, and regular supervision with the Program Director.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Lived experience as a father or father figure with a commitment to active, positive parenting.
  • Outgoing personality and ability to engage with new people comfortably in a variety of settings.
  • Deep familiarity with East Harlem and/or surrounding neighborhoods.
  • Strong verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently, manage time well, and maintain confidentiality.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience with outreach, peer mentoring, or community organizing.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish or English/Creole) is a plus.
  • Experience representing a nonprofit, faith-based, or community program is a plus.

Why Join Real Dads Network?

  • Be the face of a movement to transform how fathers are seen, supported, and celebrated.
  • Help bring vital programs and services directly to the dads who need them most.
  • Receive training, mentorship, and leadership development.
  • Work with a passionate team committed to strengthening families and uplifting communities.
