Enterprise Solution Architect (Town of Islip)

Job Description

1. Evaluate current architecture and technology stack for systems, including system design, and recommend architectural solutions to align with business goals, technical requirements, and government policies;
2. Manage technology refresh and End-of-Service (EOS) product replacements, including planning, product exploration, recommendations, and implementations. This scope includes developing and maintaining technology roadmaps, overseeing, guiding, and supporting the Authoritys appointed contractors throughout delivery, setup, testing, and deployment phases;
3. Define technical standards, best practices, and guidelines for software development;
4. Conduct product and technology evaluations, including making recommendations;
5. Review existing architecture documentation to ensure it is up to date, and develop or maintain system architecture documentation as needed;
6. Conduct knowledge sharing sessions and training when necessary;
7. Collaborate with stakeholders to gather and analyze project and architectural requirements;
8. Monitor system performance and scalability, recommending improvements as needed;
9. Architect and solution new systems, including designing high-level system architectures, developing solutions, and recommending implementation approaches to ensure alignment with the Authoritys objectives and Enterprise Architecture (EA).

Job Requirements

1. At least 3 years of experience as a Software Architect or an equivalent role;
2. Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or equivalent (preferred);
3. Relevant recognition and/or certification as an Architect;
4. Strong knowledge of software architecture principles and design patterns;
5. Proven track record of designing and implementing large-scale systems;
6. Experience with on-premises, cloud, or hybrid architectures;
7. Additional advantageous skills include:
8. Setup and implementation or technology refresh of system infrastructure (servers, networks, storage, middleware, monitoring tools, etc.);
9. Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity planning, backup & recovery processes, and high availability architectures;
10. Experience with cloud infrastructure and technologies;
11. Knowledge of IT Governance frameworks such as ITIL and COBIT.
