The Sr. Merchant, Handbags is a resourceful and collaborative candidate who, in partnership with the Sr. Director, owns our seasonal line plans, strategically analyzing the business to ensure continued category growth. This position requires consistently keeping a pulse on the competitive handbag landscape. The candidate should have an entrepreneurial spirit with strong cross-functional communication & relationship building skills as they will be responsible for working with buying, planning, production, design and marketing seamlessly. In addition to attention to detail and business acumen, they should have a passion for product and an eye for brand-right trend. A Day in the Life: Strategic Line Planning & Product Strategy
- In partnership with the Sr. Director and SVP, supports the end-to-end merchandising process for the Handbags category, including seasonal line planning, pricing architecture, and SKU rationalization
- Translate brand vision and consumer insights into commercially viable, trend-forward assortments.
- Partner with Design and Product Development to align product execution with financial targets and strategic intent.
- Create and manage global line plans that address regional and channel-specific needs, while maintaining brand consistency.
- Ensure cohesive and differentiated assortments across channels (retail, e-commerce, wholesale).
- Provide market feedback and sales analysis to guide product and line evolution.
- Drive business to achieve sales, margin and inventory goals
- Analyze sales performance and conduct competitive benchmarking to optimize assortments and inform future strategies.
- Collaborate with Planning and Allocation on inventory and OTB.
- Manage and mentor a direct report
- Foster strong relationships with Design, Planning, Marketing, Retail, and Global Sales teams.
- In partnership with Sr. Director, represent the Handbags category in key milestone meetings, presenting seasonal strategies to leadership and cross-functional stakeholders
- Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in Merchandising, Business, or related field
- 10+ years of leather goods merchandising experience; luxury brands experience strongly preferred
- Proven ability to develop and execute seasonal assortment strategies aligned with brand vision and financial goals
- Strong analytical skills with expertise in retail math, margin management, and interpreting sales data to drive business decisions
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (including complex formulas), PowerPoint, and PLM systems; familiarity with Merchandising data tools (e.g., PLM) is a plus
- Elevated taste level and trend awareness with ability to translate trends and market insights into commercially viable assortments
- Strong presentation and influencing skills with experience communicating to senior leadership and cross-functional teams
- Strong leadership and collaboration skills; ability to drive alignment across Design, Planning, Marketing, and Buying teams
- Highly organized with ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated problem-solving skills and adaptability to shifting seasonal timelines and business needs
- Experience in pricing strategy, initial markup targets, and margin optimization
- Market research expertise and ability to identify emerging trends and competitive opportunities

The compensation range for this position is 125,000.00 USD - 160,000.00 USD. Our offer will be based on your relevant experience and work location.
