Head of Finance
🐶 Our mission
At Snout , our mission is to ensure no one ever has to make a healthcare decision for their pet based on the money in their bank account. As a modern financing alternative to traditional pet insurance, Snout wellness plans cover 100% of routine veterinary care like vaccinations, unlimited visits, and other valuable member benefits — designed to be used, not forgotten. We help pet owners prioritize care while removing financial risk for veterinary practices.
🚀 The opportunity
Snout is one of the fastest growing companies in the veterinary space, trusted by clinics across the US. We’re a small but mighty startup team of fewer than 30 passionate people. We’re looking for a roll-up-your-sleeves Head of Finance based USA , preferably in New York City or the Metro Detroit area in a hybrid role, to own the entire financial engine of the company – from financial modeling to budgeting, fundraising to metric tracking.
💻 The role
Snout is looking for a Head of Finance to join our leadership team and help shape the future of a fast-growing, venture-backed fintech company in the veterinary space. You’ll report directly to the COO and own the financial strategy, operations, and roadmap that power our business.
This is an ideal role for someone with a strong foundation in finance – whether from investment banking, financial services, consulting, corporate strategy, or valuation – who’s ready to move beyond spreadsheets and into strategic decision-making. At Snout, finance isn’t just about reporting and forecasting. It’s about helping design the future of our product, inform pricing and risk models, and influence how we scale.
If you're part spreadsheet nerd, part strategic operator, and excited by the idea of building something new with a team that moves fast and thinks big – we’d love to talk.
Snout is committed to building a diverse and inclusive team. We know that great candidates may not check every box — and that’s okay. If you're excited about this role and our mission, we encourage you to apply if you meet at least 75% of qualifications including the first bullet. If you need any accommodations during the application or interview process, please let us know — we’re happy to support you.
🛠 What you’ll do
- Lead the company’s financial planning and strategy, including budgeting, forecasting, and long-term financial modeling
- Manage all finance and accounting operations, including AR, payroll, historical financials, financial modeling, metrics reporting, etc
- Analyze the company’s financial data, monitor cash flow, and identify financial performance trends with actionable insights
- Develop and maintain relationships with investors, financing partners, and the Board of Directors
💡What we're looking for
- 3+ years of experience working in investment banking, financial services, consulting, corporate strategy, or valuation
- Experience and exposure to technology and SaaS businesses, and their relevant metrics
- In-depth understanding of financial modeling, financial statements, and excel
- Strong attention to detail and ability to provide accurate, yet timely, work
- Strong leadership and organizational skills, with an ability to think strategically
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to manage various stakeholders
- Someone who is happy working in a hybrid office position, is able to travel quarterly to our Troy, Michigan office and is located nearby an airport
🌟 Bonus points for
- Operating experience at a Seed, Series A, or Serie B software business
- Having a self-starter or entrepreneurial background
- Ownership and accountability – you don’t need a big team to make big things happen
- Passion for pets, startups, or both
💖 Why you should join Snout
- Fast growing, venture capital backed technology company focused on improving access to veterinary care
- Ability to have a meaningful impact from Day 1, where your voice and opinion matters
- Unlimited potential to grow in your career and to gain experience in multiple parts of an organization
- Competitive compensation package and benefits package
❌ Why you should NOT apply
- You are not based or legally authorized to work in the USA
- You are unable to travel quarterly and do not enjoy hybrid office work
- You do not have 3+ years of relevant experience under your belt
- You are inflexible, love rules and cannot deal with constant ambiguity or pivots
- You don’t have superior attention to detail
- You need a finance team to rely on and don’t want to be hands-on with accounting and finance
- You aren’t comfortable with financial modeling or creating complicated excel files from scratch
💸 Compensation
- $120 000 - 160 000 base salary
- Other potential considerations, such as equity
