Principal PMT- ES, AWS Security Services (S2)
DESCRIPTION AWS Security Services is redefining how enterprises are protecting their cloud-based applications and services. We are innovating in cloud security with services like Amazon GuardDuty, Amazon Security Hub, Amazon Inspector, and Amazon Security Lake. Our team is growing, and we need an experienced senior product manager to join the team and own innovative new products to help customers protect workloads and services on AWS. As the Principal Product Manager, you will be a member of the Leadership Team helping advise and deliver the overall AWS Security Services product strategy and vision. In this capacity, you will work hand-in-hand with Engineering, Product leaders across all our charters – helping the teams move faster, innovate bigger, and drive greater impact to our customers. You will drive success through feature definition, roadmap prioritization, positioning, naming, GTM, usage growth, and financial metrics. Operationally, you will solve customer problems, improve delivery speed, and drive usage by working backwards from ambiguous customer needs, translating them into disruptive, successful products that delight customers. This role will require interacting with customers (including senior executives) on a regular basis, and coordination across many internal and external teams. You’ll work with our customers, partners, software vendors, and operational stakeholders to prioritize roadmap features, and spearhead the definition of new capabilities through expertly crafted business requirements documents. The successful candidate must have exceptional problem-solving skills, strong business judgment, and demonstrated product management experience influencing both technical and non-technical internal and external stakeholders. We are looking for a proven ability to execute both strategically and tactically, and someone who is excited to take on new, ambiguous projects that will be industry defining. This position requires both a solid technical background and proven results with customer-facing delivery of either security, cloud, or AI products.
Key job responsibilities
As the Principal Product Manager- Tech for external customer-facing AWS Security Services, you will be the owner defining strategy/product vision through feature definition, roadmap prioritization, positioning, naming, GTM/adoption, and financial metrics. We are looking for an experienced product leader who is passionate about solving customer problems, and who has demonstrated success working backwards from ambiguous customer needs, translating them into disruptive, successful products that delight customers. In this position, you will play a pivotal role defining the product requirements and go-to-market strategy for AWS Security Services and the needs of our customers. This role will require interacting with customers (including senior executives) on a daily basis, coordination across many internal and external teams and will be visible at the highest levels of the company. You’ll work with our customers, partners, software vendors, and operational stakeholders to prioritize roadmap features, and spearhead the definition of new capabilities through expertly crafted business requirements documents. The successful candidate must have exceptional problem-solving skills, strong business judgment, and demonstrated experience influencing both internally and externally. This position requires a solid technical background, and the candidate should be customer-focused with a passion for security and cloud technology.
Technical Leadership & Strategy
- Shape 3-5 year strategic vision and technical roadmaps for AWS Security Services
- Review complex service design decisions across distributed systems and security architectures
- Drive technical innovation in security services
- Identify service dependencies and efficiency improvements across the AWS ecosystem
- Own business and product definition for major AWS service products
Customer & Market Focus
- Lead technical discussions with enterprise customers and participate in customer advisory boards
- Analyze competitive landscape and identify market opportunities in security
- Translate customer pain points into technical product requirements and solutions
- Represent AWS at industry conferences and technical events
Cross-Functional Leadership
- Drive team execution of strategic initiatives across multiple engineering organizations
- Collaborate with engineering, sales, marketing, and business development teams
- Mentor and develop product management skills in team members
- Take ownership of product reliability issues and drive resolution
- Influence pricing and packaging decisions for external services

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- 7+ years of working as a Technical Product Manager experience
- 5+ years of technical (software development, network development, IT, other related) experience
- Experience delivering large-scale SaaS, PaaS or LaaS products where you are responsible for the full product lifecycle, from concept through GTM (go to market)
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master's degree or equivalent in computer science, computer engineering, or related field, or PhD
- Experience with Cloud platforms (preferably AWS), database systems (SQL and NoSQL), AI tools for development productivity, contributing to open-source projects, and/or version control systems
- Experience with AWS or cloud technologies
- Experience with open-source technologies like Linux, Spring or React
- Experience with IT compliance and risk management requirements (e.g. security, privacy, SOX, HIPAA etc.)
- Experience with AI/ML technologies

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $163,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $281,800/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company.
