Job Summary:

Carnegie Corporation of New York has an exciting opportunity for an individual who is passionate about global affairs. The ideal candidate for this position is someone who is proactive, has high initiative, is creative, energetic, well organized, and able to multi-task, prioritize and learn quickly. The Program Assistant will primarily provide both programmatic and administrative support to the Program Director, International Program, as well as other program staff, as required.

Responsibilities:

  • For the investigative phase of the grantmaking process, conduct background research on prospective grantees and their capabilities, including site visits, review and assess active proposals for consideration, and solicit proposal reviews from qualified scholars and experts when appropriate.
  • For the docket phase of the grantmaking process, conduct negotiations with prospective grantees, review and approve budgets, compose and submit confidential staff evaluations of projects to the board, review and approve all relevant information corroborating the recommendation that is included in the docket.
  • Correspond with current and potential grantees, draft internal program documents.
  • Organize meetings and occasionally attend meetings or represent the program at conferences and site visits.
  • Monitor active projects, communicate regularly with grantees, and assist active projects as needed.
  • Sustain an accurate working knowledge of the current trends, professional practices and developing policy issues related to the program area.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Excellent proofreading skills, with keen attention to detail/pat
  • Ability to work self-sufficiently.
  • Strong presentation, planning and organizational skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong technical skills with fluency in Microsoft Office, and the ability to learn new applications as necessary.
  • Project management skills.
  • Exposure to grantmaking experience a plus
  • Work onsite four days per week (Mon-Thurs)

Salary Range:

$74,000 - $84,000/annual. New hires are typically brought into the organization between the minimum to midpoint of the salary hiring range posted depending on qualifications, experience, and internal equity.
