Litigation Attorney - Criminal Law & Insurance Defense

Position Overview

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Litigation Attorney to join our growing legal team. The ideal candidate will have strong courtroom experience and a background in criminal law, insurance defense litigation, or both. This role involves managing cases from inception through trial, handling court appearances, conducting legal research, drafting motions, and providing strategic legal counsel to clients.

The successful candidate must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of independently managing a busy caseload while collaborating effectively with attorneys, clients, and support staff.

Key Responsibilities

• Handle all aspects of litigation, including pleadings, discovery, depositions, motion practice, hearings, and trials
• Represent clients in criminal proceedings and/or insurance defense matters
• Conduct legal research and draft motions, briefs, and legal memoranda
• Attend court appearances, arbitrations, mediations, and settlement conferences
• Evaluate claims, analyze liability and damages, and develop litigation strategy
• Communicate effectively with clients, insurance carriers, witnesses, and opposing counsel
• Negotiate settlements where appropriate
• Maintain accurate case files and meet all court deadlines
• Provide legal guidance and case assessments to clients and management

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school
• Active license to practice law in New York
• Minimum of [2–5+] years of litigation experience
• Experience in criminal law, insurance defense, personal injury defense, or civil litigation preferred
• Strong written and oral advocacy skills
• Trial and deposition experience preferred
• Ability to manage multiple cases independently
• Excellent negotiation, analytical, and communication skills
• Proficiency with legal research platforms and case management software

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience handling jury trials
• Familiarity with state and federal court procedures
• Background in personal injury, professional liability, or general liability defense
