VP Supply Corp
Rochester, NY

Job Description

Description:

Company Overview:

VP Supply is a leading value-added wholesale distribution company committed to facilitating pain-free construction and renovation. With twenty locations across multiple states and over 400 employees, we provide the products, expertise, and service that contractors and builders rely on to keep projects moving.

As a growth-oriented, 60-year-old, family-owned business, we combine long-term relationships and strong values with the ambition and agility to scale. Our culture supports people who are driven to grow professionally while valuing balance, community, and meaningful work.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a thoughtful, forward-thinking Assistant Controller to support the continued evolution of our accounting department as we scale to meet ambitious growth goals. This role is ideal for a technically strong, tech-savvy professional who thrives in a fast-paced, high-transaction environment and is motivated by the opportunity to enhance systems, support team development, and make a meaningful impact across the business.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Partner with senior leadership to further develop a scalable, modern accounting platform that supports growth, operational complexity, and strategic expansion.
  • Manage and continuously improve close and reporting processes to ensure timely, accurate financials without sacrificing quality.
  • Serve as a hands-on partner and resource to the accounting team—mentoring colleagues, sharing expertise, and fostering a culture of service, accountability, and growth.
  • Help maintain a strong, adaptive control environment that balances compliance with the practical needs of a dynamic, entrepreneurial business.
  • Provide thoughtful, transparent, accurate and timely reporting and insight to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Actively identify opportunities to automate, streamline, and scale accounting workflows and reporting.
  • Play a key role in integrating newly acquired entities by supporting process alignment and system integration while fostering a collaborative, unified culture.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to implement firmwide process changes that support both operational control and business performance goals.
  • Own and manage key accounting projects with clear communication, strong follow-through, and a focus on delivering measurable results.
Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, ideally in accounting or finance.
  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally with a blend of public accounting and high-growth, private company roles; industry experience in multi-location retail or high-volume distribution is strongly preferred.
  • Technically strong with deep knowledge of U.S. GAAP and internal control frameworks.
  • Demonstrated success in acquisition integration, process improvement, and cross-functional project leadership.
  • Tech-forward mindset with experience implementing or optimizing ERP and reporting systems; advanced Excel and data analysis skills.
  • Passionate about mentoring and developing others; able to upskill a team and create a culture of accountability, service, and continuous learning· Professional maturity to take ownership, operate with transparency, and focus on driving outcomes with a willingness to be ‘hands on’ when needed.
