Assistant teacher

A Nardin Academy Early Childhood Montessori Assistant Teacher (3–6) plays an essential role in supporting a nurturing, respectful, and developmentally appropriate environment that aligns with Montessori philosophy. The assistant works under the direction of the Lead Teachers, supporting classroom routines, promoting independence, and guiding young children with kindness and consistency. This team-oriented educator is committed to collaboration, responsive care, and professional growth.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Support the Lead Teachers in preparing and maintaining an orderly, calm, and engaging classroom environment.
- Assist with classroom management by modeling and reinforcing grace and courtesy, independence, and respect for self, others, and the environment.
- Observe students and provide gentle redirection and support that align with Montessori principles.
- Help organize and maintain Montessori materials, including setting up activities and preparing the environment for daily use.
- Guide children in practical life and self-care routines, encouraging responsibility and autonomy.
- Supervise children during classroom work time, transitions, lunch, recess, rest, and other daily activities.
- Support classroom record-keeping and observation practices as directed by the Lead Teacher.
- Communicate with children in a respectful, developmentally appropriate manner and redirect behavior using positive guidance strategies.
- Participate in maintaining a clean, safe, and welcoming environment, including daily classroom upkeep and hygiene routines.
- Assist with classroom projects, material creation, and other teaching preparations as needed.
- Maintain confidentiality and professionalism in all communication with students, staff, and families.
- Collaborate with the classroom team to ensure consistency in routines and expectations.
- Attend faculty meetings, training sessions, and school events as required.
- Follow the school’s policies and procedures as outlined in the Faculty Handbook.
- Actively support and model the mission and values of Nardin Academy.

Required Qualifications:
- Experience working with young children in an educational setting is preferred.
- Interest in or familiarity with Montessori philosophy strongly preferred; willingness to grow in Montessori practice required.
- Associate's degree or relevant coursework in early childhood education; bachelor’s degree a plus.
- CPR/First Aid certification or willingness to obtain.
- Communication skills, patience, and a collaborative mindset.
Working Conditions:
The work environment is a Montessori classroom setting. The noise level in the work
environment is usually low to moderate, but occasionally high depending upon student
population and activities. The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid
conditions and/or outdoor weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to
bloodborne pathogens.
Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to walk, stand, and sit. The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, ability to adjust focus and peripheral vision.
Compensation:
Final compensation will be at the discretion of the hiring team based upon the candidate’s interview performance and relevant professional experience. This is a part-time role, with 5 hours per day Monday through Friday.
