Staff Accountant

Position Summary:

Chestnut Carbon is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Staff Accountant to support our growing finance and accounting operations. This is a high-impact role that will play a key part in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial records as we scale our nature-based carbon removal initiatives. The Staff Accountant will be responsible for general ledger maintenance, transaction processing, reconciliations, and reporting. Key Responsibilities

General Accounting

• Prepare and record journal entries including accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, intercompany transactions.
• Reconcile bank statements and general ledger accounts to ensure accuracy and completeness.
• Assist in the monthly, quarterly, and end-year close process.

Accounts Payable & Receivable

• Process accounts payable invoices, expenses, and credit card charges in a timely and accurate manner.
• Assist with invoicing, processing and reconciling deposits, receipts and disbursements.

Reporting & Compliance

• Assist in the preparation of financial statements and internal management reports.
• Support annual audits and tax filings by preparing requested schedules and documentation.
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date accounting records, files, and documentation.
• Ensure compliance with internal controls, accounting policies, and procedures.

Process Improvement

• Identify opportunities to improve accounting workflows, documentation, and automation.

Cross-Functional Collaboration

• Work closely with other departments on special projects or routine tasks to ensure accurate financial tracking and reporting.

$75,000 - $80,000 a year

The base salary for this position is expected to be $75,000-$80,000, subject to the chosen candidate's experience, skills, certifications and qualifications.

All employees are eligible to participate in health insurance, and 401K plan benefits on their first day of employment. Chestnut Carbon pays 100% of the cost of the employees’ health/dental/vision insurance. During each fiscal year of employment, employees will be eligible to earn a discretionary annual incentive bonus, based on company and individual performance targets. The position is eligible to participate in the Company’s equity incentive program.
