Our Team:

The Center for Applied Research on Work (CAROW) is a hub for collaborative applied research efforts across the ILR School and the university. CAROW connects research on work with the practice of putting it to use. CAROW provides a platform for new interdisciplinary approaches, innovative methods, and nimble resourcing with the goal of bringing high quality research to bear on the challenges facing today's labor markets and connecting that research to external stakeholders and policy makers. Utilizing trainings, convenings, and new tool development CAROW advances the work of faculty and institutes conducting translational labor research and brings them together to drive new insights.

Responsibilities:

This position will contribute to ongoing research projects with Artificial Intelligence (AI) focus related to the Center for Applied Research on Work (CAROW).

Responsibilities include: the utilization of direct data and secondary data sources for research; use and analysis of quantitative data in concert with extensive in-depth literature reviews and related written summaries targeting AI topics; completion of human subjects review requests to the Cornell IRB; design of interview and focus groups protocols; analysis of qualitative data results from interviews and focus groups; survey design, data collection, and analysis; analysis of relevant secondary data; writing of reports, scholarly articles, grant applications, as well as research-to-practice briefs, and practitioner journal articles.

The incumbent will work under the supervision of Professor Ariel Avgar supporting AI focused CAROW research projects. The position will commence on September 1, 2026, for a 12-month appointment.

Appointment Details:
  • This is a full-time, academic, non-tenure track, term position with an initial one-year appointment from September 1, 2026 - August 31, 2027.
  • No teaching responsibilities are required for this position.
  • The Postdoctoral Associate will receive regular supervision and mentorship from Professor Ariel Avgar.
  • The Postdoctoral Associate will receive $70,000.00 in salary as well as a research budget of $2,000.00.

Requirements:
  • Applicant must have a PhD in labor relations, sociology, management, economics, applied statistics or related fields completed within five years of starting the position.
  • Applicant must have demonstrated interest and scholarly efforts in AI or other related topics.
  • Applicants must have experience in the handling and organization of large data sets.
  • Familiarity with analysis of panel or longitudinal data and working with multilevel models is valued.
  • Additional skills with mixed methods research on related topics, including surveys, interviews, focus groups is preferred, but not required.
  • Must have expertise in using statistical software such as STATA, R, SAS or SPSS.

Pay Range:

$62,232.00 - $88,745.00
