For over 60 years PSS has performed vital and important work -- through its 10 centers, two apartment buildings and affiliated programs, the agency touches the lives of over 2,000 people a day. As the Accountant, you will be responsible for a variety of purchasing, payroll, and reporting functions associated with the operations of PSS. The accountant's role is vital in ensuring effective financial and administrative operations of all PSS programs to allow our programs to serve our members as effectively as possible.

This position reports to the Chief Finance Officer.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Grant Budget Management:


  • Manage grant budgets, including monitoring expenses, tracking revenue and preparing financial reports for grantors.

  • Prepare the budget for new programs and/or grants.

  • Prepare the budget projections for each program budget.

  • Assist with the preparation of the annual organization budget

  • Work closely with Program Directors to ensure alignment of grant spending with program objectives.

Budget Modification:


  • Manage budget modification for both the Department for the Aging (DFTA) and the Department of Health (DOH)

  • Ensure compliance with funding requirements and organizational financial goals.

Voucher Review:


  • Review monthly vouchers for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with organizational policies and grant requirements.

  • Coordinate with Program Directors and finance team members to resolve discrepancies and ensure proper documentation.

Payroll Processing:


  • Review and assist with payroll processing to ensure accuracy and timeliness.

  • Collaborate with Program Directors to address any payroll-related issues

Team Oversight:


  • Supervise and provide guidance to two bookkeepers, ensuring accurate and efficient financial operations.

  • Conduct regular performance evaluations and provide necessary training and support

PTO Approval:


  • Review and approve employee requests for paid time off (PTO) in accordance with the organizational policies and procedures.

  • Maintain accurate records of employee leave balances and usage.

  • Work closely with the HR Department to ensure accurate benefit financial records.

Audit/Reporting:


  • Assist with the annual audit preparation.

  • Oversee daily financial operations, ensuring accurate and timely monthly reporting and closings.

  • Reconciles revenue, accounts receivable, program expenses of government contracts and restricted grants to the general ledger monthly and proposes journal entries if necessary.

  • Prepare accurate financial reports to support CFO decision-making.

  • Identify financial issues and operational risks, ensuring to communicate with the CFO of any discrepancies.

  • Assist the CFO with any additional projects.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or related field.

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in accounting experience and a solid understanding of grants and cost center reporting

  • Proven experience in nonprofit accounting, with a strong understanding of fund accounting principles and government funding regulations.

  • Proficiency in payroll processing software and financial management systems.

  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail.

  • Experience in financial analysis and general ledger reporting.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.

  • Prior experience with grant management and budgeting is preferred.

  • Demonstrated ability to manage and motivate a team to achieve organizational objectives.

  • Knowledge of QuickBooks and PASSPort is desired.
