Part-Time School Life Assistant (Preschool) - Immediate start

The École is an independent, French-American bilingual school serving an international community of Maternelle-to-Middle School students in New York City’s Flatiron District. We offer a rigorous bilingual academic program and serve more than 360 students from Pre-Nursery through 8th Grade (ages 2–14).

We are currently seeking a warm, reliable, and energetic School Life Assistant (SLA) to join our Maternelle (Preschool) team. This is a part-time, in-person position, Monday through Friday, supporting children ages 2 to 5 and assisting teachers throughout the school day. The SLA team plays a key role in ensuring smooth transitions, safe recess periods, and high-quality care for our youngest learners.

This position is part-time (approximately 29 hours per week) and requires consistent availability five days a week when the school is in session. SLAs also have the opportunity to work at one of the school camps during the October, February, April, and Summer breaks if they are interested.

Responsibilities

Classroom Support

• Assist teachers during morning routines and classroom activities.
• Provide nurturing, hands-on support in Pre-Nursery (2-year-olds), including diapering and toileting routines.
• Help manage classroom materials, organization, and transitions.

Recess & Movement Supervision

• Accompany and supervise classes during recess on our rooftop playground or at Madison Square Park.
• Support safe, well-structured play and positive peer interactions.
• Assist with transitions between classrooms, recess, and lunch spaces.

Lunch Preparation & Coverage

• Help prepare and deliver lunches to classrooms.
• Provide lunch and recess coverage across Pre-Nursery, Nursery, Pre-K, and Kindergarten, ensuring teachers receive their scheduled breaks.

Daily Routines

• Support smooth transitions throughout the day (arrival, recess, lunch, nap).
• Maintain high standards of health, safety, and cleanliness.
• Collaborate with teachers and school leadership to ensure consistent routines and a warm, welcoming environment.

Ideal Qualifications

• Experience working with children ages 2 to 5, especially toddlers.
• Comfort with diapering, toileting support, and caring for very young children.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work Monday through Friday without exception.
• Positive energy, strong teamwork skills, and a calm, patient presence.
• Ability to supervise groups of children safely during recess and transitions.
• Strong communication and organizational skills.
• Experience in bilingual or dual-language, international, or independent education is an advantage.
• Proficiency in French is an asset but not required.

Schedule & Compensation

• Part-time position: Approximately 29 hours a week.
• Schedule: Monday-Friday, 9:00 a.m to 2:45 p.m (with a 45-minute break).
• Hourly salary $20-$25, depending on experience
• This role is not eligible for full-time benefits.
