SENIOR DIRECTOR OF MARKETING AND PARTNERSHIPS
Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Access Statement: Museum of the Moving Image serves as a bridge to connect diverse communities to the moving image, in all its forms, with the goal of together building a more equitable and inclusive cultural future. We strive to be welcoming to everyone who passes through our doors, with programs, exhibitions, and a staff that reflect the diversity of our community. Our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion is informed by an anti-oppressive, intersectional, international, and community-centered approach to all that we do. A ubiquitous and powerful form of creative expression and communication, the moving image can serve to enliven, uplift, and build a deeper understanding of ourselves and one another.
SENIOR DIRECTOR OF MARKETING AND PARTNERSHIPS
Museum of the Moving Image has had a year of unprecedented growth and success. Attendance is up and the museum has hosted a number of marquee events, screenings, and convenings. With this in mind, MoMI seeks a new Senior Director level position to help shape our narrative, create more opportunities, and build general awareness of the museum to new audiences and partners.
The Senior Director of Marketing and Partnerships will serve as a key architect of the Museum’s voice, visibility, and impact. Reporting to the Executive Director, this position will create and lead content-driven programming and digital initiatives that position the Museum of the Moving Image (MoMI) as a thought leader and innovator in the cultural sector, introducing diverse audiences to the institution, creating new content and revenue-generating partnerships.
This role combines strategic vision with hands-on program development—overseeing lectures, digital marketing, PR, special events, partnerships, sponsorships, and fundraising programs that amplify the Museum’s mission, strengthen donor engagement, and expand global reach. The qualified candidate should have a significant level of experience in non-profit marketing or agency work and a track record of building meaningful, high-impact sponsored programming and events.
Responsibilities:
Digital Strategy & Marketing
- Build meaningful relationships with brands and organizations to amplify MoMI’s message in NYC and across the country.
- Shape and implement MoMI’s digital content strategy across YouTube, podcasts, livestreams, and other media platforms to elevate the Museum’s global profile.
- Oversee production of original digital content (interviews, behind-the-scenes features, thought-leadership segments) to position MoMI as a hub for media innovation.
- Integrate digital programming with communications and development campaigns, expanding reach to new communities and donors.
Institutional Visibility & Strategic Partnerships
- In conjunction with the Director of Communications, partner with PR firms, cultural organizations, and peer institutions to strengthen MoMI’s reputation in New York City and internationally.
- Develop strategic collaborations with film studios, media companies, universities, and tech partners to enhance programming and generate new revenue streams.
Production & Event Leadership
- Find partnerships that lead production of new flagship series, festivals, and special events that embody MoMI’s mission and reinforce its position as a leader in film, media, and cultural discourse.
- Ensure all productions—live or digital—are of the highest quality, creatively ambitious, and audience-centered.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of 10 years of experience in communications, or related fields in the cultural sector.
- A degree in marketing, film studies, media studies, museum studies, or a relevant discipline.
- A proven track record of developing and implementing successful programming and communications strategies for a museum or a similar institution.
- A strong knowledge of and passion for film, media, and the moving image.
- A desire to be part of a mission-driven organization and to make NYC a better, more accessible place for all.
- Excellent leadership, management, and interpersonal skills.
- Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively and creatively with a diverse and dynamic team.
- Proficiency in web design, content management systems, and social media platforms.
- Familiarity with visitor research and evaluation methods and tools.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
- Willingness to travel and work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
