Financial Controller

Goodstein Development Corp.
Great Neck, NY

Job Description

Job Description

The Goodstein Organization is a fourth-generation, family-owned real estate development and management firm building, owning, and managing property since 1927. Our portfolio spans New York, Florida, Virginia, and Arizona — apartments, condominiums, hotels, assisted living and healthcare, mixed-use, office, retail, and net-leased assets. For nearly a century we have operated by a single credo: Honesty, Integrity & Ethics.

Responsibilities

  • Own all accounting, financial reporting, and close processes across a multi-entity portfolio (operating companies, property entities, partnerships, and the family office), producing timely property-level and consolidated statements and owner reporting.
  • Modernize reporting, dashboards, and systems — including guiding any future move to an updated property management/accounting platform — so ownership has reliable, forward-looking information.
  • Manage cash, banking, and treasury; oversee debt and mortgage compliance, loan covenant tracking, lender reporting, and refinancing support.
  • Direct budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis at the property and portfolio level; oversee AP, AR, CAM reconciliations, tenant billings, and payroll coordination.
  • Coordinate with outside CPAs, tax preparers, maintaining and coordinating General Legers, lenders, and auditors; support tax compliance and partnership/K-1 reporting.
  • Design and maintain internal controls, policies, and procedures; work with ownership on acquisitions, dispositions, financings, and new development.
  • Supervise and develop accounting staff, and work closely with the retiring Controller of 30 years, to ensure a smooth transition of relationships, systems knowledge, and institutional history.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting; CPA preferred.
  • 10+ years of accounting experience, including real estate.
  • Hands-on experience with real estate accounting software (Peach Tree, Yardi, MRI, RealPage, AppFolio, Avid or comparable) and a track record of improving or implementing financial reporting systems.
  • Strong command of multi-entity and partnership accounting, mortgage/debt compliance and lender reporting, and real estate tax coordination.
  • A builder’s mentality — comfortable improving processes and systems rather than maintaining the status quo.
  • High integrity, discretion, and sound judgment suited to a family office; detail-oriented, organized, proactive, and an excellent communicator.

Benefits:

  • Health insurance
  • Paid time off

Work Location: In person
