Essential Functions:
The Residential Supervisor is a year-round, full-time position reporting to the Residential Managers and Residential Director. In collaboration with other members of the residential team, the residential supervisor provides front-line administrative support for daily operations, while managing and leading a team of Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to support the needs of the students in the Residential Program. This person is responsible for guiding and mentoring staff, assisting with emergency response procedures, and collaborating across all departments within Shrub Oak. The Supervisor works closely with colleagues to create/maintain an inclusive community and foster specific skill development to meet the individualized needs of Shrub Oak’s student population. The Supervisor also actively assists with other programs, events, and services administered throughout Shrub Oak and has the opportunity to be involved in a wide range of initiatives. Having access to confidential information regarding Shrub Oak and its students, discretion and independent judgment are required.
Coordinate the overnight direct care needs of DSP and 1:1 staff to ensure proper care for each student.
Manage and lead a growing team of DSPs and 1:1s during the overnight hours, focusing on staff development and performance management in collaboration with Human Resources.
Mentor and orient new staff, and train others for growth and development.
Develop and maintain respectful relationships with students, understanding their unique needs and goals.
Handle challenging student behaviors with respect and teach alternative, productive behaviors.
Explain, enforce, and support policies to ensure an inclusive and respectful community.
Complete administrative tasks, including assisting with move-in/move-out, shift logs, maintenance requests, incident reports, and behavior intervention plans.
Work proactively with students in crisis to de-escalate situations using the SOIS protocol.
Report all emergencies or situations requiring immediate attention to the appropriate staff member(s) according to Shrub Oak policies/procedures.
Attend all required meetings, seminars, and staff orientation/training.
Support other department responsibilities as needed.

Requirements:
Experience & Education:
Minimum 3 years of work experience in a high-volume/demanding customer service or human service position required
Experience working with neurodivergent adolescents and young adults is required
Experience managing, supervising, mentoring, and developing staff, with a focus on staff development and performance management, is required
Crisis management and de-escalation experience required
Experience handling aggressive behaviors and challenging client behaviors is required
Customer service experience required
Experience assisting with hygiene and personal care activities is required
EMT/EMS, CNA/HHA/PCA, or similar experience preferred
Experience working with adolescents and young adults with autism in a residential or school setting is required
Experience coordinating, scheduling, and overseeing staff shifts required
An associate’s degree in human services or a related field is required
Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred
Experience in a supervisory or management position preferred
Previously trained in crisis intervention, including TCI/SCIP, or similar techniques, preferred
Experience using Microsoft 365 suite applications preferred
The ability to mentor, coach, and support staff in their professional growth is required
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities are required
Experience working in a therapeutic or clinical environment is preferred
Experience conducting interviews is a plus

Exceptional written communication skills, including documentation, progress notes, incident reports, and related administrative tasks
Exceptional verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey information to students, staff, and other stakeholders
Skilled in managing challenging behaviors and executing de-escalation techniques effectively
Ability and willingness to learn new skills and adapt to evolving student needs and operational requirements
Ability to display resilience and maintain composure in high-stress situations
Strong relationship-building skills with students, staff, and families, promoting a supportive and inclusive environment
Ability to think critically and analytically during crises, making decisions with urgency and accuracy
Demonstrated ability to multitask and manage competing priorities in a fast-paced, unpredictable environment
Ability to handle challenging and aggressive behaviors with respect and utilize appropriate behavior management strategies
Ability to complete and maintain required TCIS and other training certifications, staying up to date with best practices
Ability to mentor and develop staff, providing guidance and ongoing professional development
Knowledge and experience with crisis prevention, intervention strategies, and behavior intervention plans to ensure a safe environment
Strong organizational skills for managing staff scheduling, incident documentation, and maintaining accurate records
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and other software tools for documentation, communication, and scheduling
Ability to maintain confidentiality while multitasking and managing sensitive information
Collaborative team player with the ability to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams, and flexibility for evening and weekend shifts
Strong leadership skills, with the ability to guide, motivate, and hold staff accountable while fostering a positive work culture
Ability to assess and respond to emergencies swiftly and appropriately, ensuring the safety of all students and staff
Knowledge of and experience with special education or autism-specific educational practices, particularly in a residential setting
Cultural competency and sensitivity to the diverse needs of students, families, and staff
Flexibility and creativity in adapting programs and support strategies to meet individual student needs

Physical Requirements/Demands:
A workday regularly includes multiple or conflicting demands, deadlines and time pressures; work regularly requires sustained concentration. Standing for sustained periods of time, bending, stretching, walking up and down stairs (building has 6 floors), around a hilly campus as needed, may also require walking between floors or between buildings at a moment’s notice. May need to lift/move boxes up to 25 pounds and move or rearrange furniture.
Work Environment:
We are a boarding school located on a 127-acre campus. The work environment will include both indoor and outdoor spaces, mostly inside the classroom or educational environment. May include work within the residential setting. The building has 6 floors accessible by staircases and elevators.
