Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced, hands-on Controller to serve as a strategic financial leader and right-hand partner to executive leadership within a healthcare environment (home care strongly preferred). This role blends deep technical accounting expertise with strong people leadership, ownership of the full close cycle, and the ability to translate financial data into actionable business insight.

The Controller will lead and develop a high-performing accounting team, ensure accuracy and compliance across a regulated, multi-entity structure, and support forward-looking financial planning in a growing, multi-state operation. This is a role for someone who can own the numbers, lead the people, and support the business strategically.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting & Close
  • Own and oversee all accounting functions including GL, AP, payroll, billing, and cash management

  • Lead timely month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes

  • Prepare and review consolidated financial statements across NY and out-of-state entities

  • Ensure GAAP compliance and accurate revenue and expense recognition

  • Provide clear financial commentary and insights to executive leadership

Leadership & Team Development
  • Manage, mentor, and develop accounting and finance staff

  • Set performance expectations, promote accountability, and optimize workflow

  • Support hiring and team build-out as the organization scales

  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Operations and HR

LHCSA & Regulatory Compliance
  • Oversee preparation of cost reports, audits, and regulatory filings

  • Ensure compliance with wage parity, overtime, and labor regulations

  • Coordinate responses to regulatory reviews and external audits

  • Serve as primary point of contact for auditors, accountants, and tax partners

Banking & Cash Flow Management
  • Lead daily banking across multiple institutions

  • Prepare and maintain multi-account cash forecasts

  • Monitor liquidity and working capital needs

Performance & Financial Analysis
  • Analyze profitability by payer, service line, geography, and client

  • Monitor margins, labor costs, reimbursement trends, and operational KPIs

  • Support pricing, rate negotiations, and payer contract analysis

  • Develop dashboards and reporting for ownership and leadership

Multi-State Operations & Growth
  • Manage accounting and compliance for multiple state-licensed entities

  • Oversee state and local tax filings, registrations, and reporting

  • Support de novo agency launches, acquisitions, and entity integrations

  • Lead annual budgeting and rolling forecasts

  • Build financial models to support growth initiatives and capital investments

  • Assist executive leadership with strategic planning and performance tracking

Internal Controls & Systems
  • Establish and maintain strong internal controls in a for-profit environment

  • Implement financial policies and procedures to support growth and audit readiness

  • Lead or support ERP, payroll, and billing system implementations

  • Ensure scalability, data integrity, and system integration across platforms

Additional Responsibilities
  • Manage insurance programs including GL/PL and Workers’ Compensation

Qualifications & Must-Haves (Non-Negotiable)

  • Proven experience as a Controller or Senior Accounting Manager

  • Strong people management skills with a track record of meeting deadlines through teams

  • Deep understanding of GAAP, GL ownership, and financial statement review

  • Experience with audits, cost reports, cash forecasting, and month-end close

  • Healthcare accounting experience required (home care strongly preferred)

  • High-level computer skills, including Excel

  • ERP experience required (Intacct a plus)

  • Experience with Viventium payroll and HHAexchange strongly preferred

  • Ability to operate independently without heavy oversight
