Long Term Substitute Cosmetology Instructor
Qualifications:
- High School diploma or the equivalent.
- Minimum five (5) years (within the last seven years) full-time employment experience directly related to cosmetology.
- Possession of current Massachusetts Board of Registration of Cosmetologists license.
- Possession of current Massachusetts Board of Registration of Cosmetologists Instructor license.
- Evidence of mastery of a wide variety of teacher competencies and the understanding of instructional techniques.
- Cosmetology certification from the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
Reports to: Principal/Deputy-Director and Vocational Deans
Summary of Job Description: The Cosmetology Instructor is responsible for the instruction training and career preparation necessary for students to become employed or continue education in a career related to cosmetology. The instructor demonstrates knowledge and implements a hands-on approach to critical thinking and problem solving skills needed for current and future industry employment. The teacher provides instruction and can demonstrate appropriate teamwork communications problem solving decision making and computer technology which relates to work place and higher education skills needed in the cosmetology profession.
Responsibilities:
- Plan organize and provide appropriate learning experiences within assigned area of responsibility.
- Teach technical skills and knowledge to provide students with the competence to become skilled in their field.
- Develop lesson plans and organize class time so that demonstration instruction hands-on practice review and final activities can be accomplished within the allotted time.
- Continuously improves the instruction curriculum and equipment so that this CTVE area is current with all trends in the field and is fully and properly preparing students for available and emerging jobs.
- Meets and instructs assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
- Creates a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students.
- Prepares for classes assigned and shows written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor.
- Encourages students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
- Guides the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum goals and in harmony with the goals establishes clear objectives for all lessons units and projects to communicate these objectives to students.
- Employs a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media.
- Implements the districts mission philosophy of education and instructional standards and objectives.
- Assesses and documents the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provides progress reports as required.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities.
- Attends staff and department meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
- Maintains accurate complete and correct records as required by law district policy regulation.
- Assists the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct and for the classroom develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure maintaining order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.
- Makes provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes outside the instructional day when required or requested to do so under reasonable terms.
- Strives to maintain and improve professional competence especially as relates to the specific assignment and student grade and subject area appropriateness.
- Establishes and maintains cooperative relationships others.
- Establishes and maintains open lines of communication with students colleagues and parents concerning both the broad academic/vocational and behavioral progress of assigned students.
- Develop positive relationships with cosmetology community partners in the area and actively solicit their help including service on the Program Advisory Board.
- Other duties deemed necessary by the Superintendent/Director or designee.
Evaluation: Evaluated in accordance with the DESE Standards and Indicators of Effective Teaching Practice and the current Northeast Teachers Association Contract.

- Salary in accordance with NTA Contract
- There are no benefits with this position.
Salary Range:
$317-$338.38 per day
