Job Summary:
The Line Cook is responsible for preparing and cooking high-quality dishes in a fast-paced, high-end kitchen. This role requires precision, attention to detail and a commitment to maintaining the restaurant's culinary standards. The Line Cook works as part of a team to ensure a seamless dining experience for guests.
Key Responsibilities:
- Prepare ingredients and cook menu items according to the restaurant's recipes and standards.
- Maintain consistency in flavor, presentation and portion sizes.
- Ensure all dishes leave the kitchen on time and meet quality expectations.
- Set up and stock assigned stations with necessary supplies and ingredients before service.
- Keep stations clean, organized and efficient during service.
- Work closely with other cooks, chefs and kitchen staff to ensure smooth operations.
- Communicate effectively about orders, special requests and any issues that arise during service.
- Follow all food safety guidelines including proper handling, storage and labeling of ingredients.
- Maintain cleanliness of workstations, equipment and tools throughout shifts.
- Adhere to kitchen safety standards including knife handling and use of hot equipment.
- Monitor inventory levels at your station and inform the chef of any shortages.
- Properly store and rotate ingredients to minimize waste and ensure freshness.
- Stay familiar with the restaurant’s menu including ingredients, preparation methods and presentation guidelines.
- Be aware of dietary restrictions and accommodate special requests.
- Assist with other kitchen tasks as needed, such as dishwashing or helping with prep for other stations.
- Participate in training and meetings to improve skills and stay updated on kitchen policies.
Required Qualifications and Skills:
- Flexibility to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays as required.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred; culinary school education a plus.
- Previous experience as a Line Cook in a high-end or fine dining restaurant is strongly preferred.
- Strong knowledge of culinary techniques, food preparation and kitchen equipment.
- Ability to multitask and perform well under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to maintaining quality standards.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand, bend and move for extended periods.
- Lift and carry heavy items, such as stock pots or food containers, weighing up to 50 pounds.
- Work in a hot and humid environment for prolonged periods.
