POSITION SUMMARY:
The Supervisor of Social Services is responsible for the supervision of the Social Workers Master Level, regarding the overall delivery and coordination of services for the homeless as well as assist the Director of Social Services with case management.
The essential functions of the job include, but are not limited to the duties listed in the job description.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Through the employee’s own efforts, the employee accomplishes the following essential functions:
- Supervisor will have a limited client caseload at the shelter.
- Organize and conduct workshops based on client needs at the facility.
- Supervisor collaborates to develop programming to address clients’ needs related to housing, substance abuse treatment, mental health and/or employment.
- Supervisor provide crisis management and interventions with clients, ensure teamwork and ensure consistent services in accordance with program policies and procedures.
- Supervisor responsible for Client Engagement also develop workshops for client engagement, conduct field visits, plan programming to increase community and citywide resources and incentives for client participation.
- Responsible for retaining assigned qualified staff and ensures professional growth and development.
- Reviews treatment/recovery plans and progress notes, written and electronic, to ensure that clinical services are appropriate with the individual client’s level of care and needs and appropriate with the diagnosis.
- Communicates frequently with varied referral sources to maintain working and problem-solving relationships with medical, psychiatric, social services, parole, criminal justice, labor and other resources for client recruitments.
- Work from a strength based, family focused, client centered perspective and identify and fortify the strengths that each family has.
- Assist families with specific stressors associated with living in a shelter.
- Ensure that families are receiving full support in shelter and, when necessary, refer families for counseling or other services.
- Aid families in understanding the full range of benefits to which they are entitled and assist with accessing said benefits.
- Confer and consult with professional and technical personnel in implementing a multidisciplinary approach to client care and well-being.
- Serve as agency/program liaison to community agencies and/or groups.
- Provide clear reports that capture key findings to include provider areas of strength, and recommendations for improvement.
- Ensure that all case management is documented in database system, Cares.
- Attend professional development trainings.
- Other duties as deemed necessary by the Program Director and/or funding source DHS.
- The Supervisor of Social Services will serve as the backup for the Director of Social Services.
ADDITIONAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Adheres to all policies and procedures, including those prescribed in the Highland Park CDC Employee Handbook.
- Maintain confidentiality and do not disclose information learned through the course of the job with people other than those who need to know including employee information, financial information, client information, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS:
To perform this job successfully, and individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and / or ability required.
- Minimum Required Education & Experience:
- Master’s Degree in Social work, and a current license as a Clinical Social Worker.
- Three to Five years’ experience supervising a Case Management Team.
- Knowledge for DHS Case System, and experience working with families in Shelters.
- Knowledge of child and adolescents development; emotional/behavioral health, mental health, parent-child relationships family dynamics and diagnostic classification.
- Certification in First Aid, CPR
- Preferred Education & Experience:
- 2 years related experience.
- Previous work experience with homeless population, MICA, or Veterans community
- Computer Skills:
- Proficient in computer software programs (Word, Excel, Power Point, CARES, etc.)
- Language skills:
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Reads and comprehends simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos; Writes simple correspondence; Presents information in one-on-one and small groups situations outside stakeholders, clients and other employees.
- Bilingual is preferred
