The Business Development Manager is responsible for planning, developing, and executing the overall business development and engagement strategy for sitework construction in Savannah. Duties include cultivating relationships with key stakeholders, identifying business opportunities, and leveraging the company’s reputation to attract customers. The Business Development Manager will actively participate in the support of existing clients and key accounts as well as serve as a point of escalation to provide conflict resolution as needed to maintain client satisfaction.

  • Identify and cultivate lasting relationships with key stakeholders associated with civil engineers, general contractors, and developers to drive repeat business and referrals.
  • Identify, pursue, and analyze new business opportunities and partnerships through proactive prospecting, networking, and relationship-building efforts.
  • Locate and prequalify viable targets by vetting the project opportunities, determining if the company should proceed with a business relationship, and completing prequalification documentation.
  • Plan, develop, and execute overall business development and engagement strategy to generate and maintain a continual and thriving project pipeline.
  • Serve as client point of escalation as challenges arise throughout the life cycle of a construction project.
  • Actively participate in industry, client, community relations, and peer-to peer networking to promote the company as well as leverage the company’s brand and reputation to attract customers, prospects, and referrals.
  • Collaborate with President, Director of Business Development, and pre-construction team to prepare and present proposals and bids to secure new projects and contracts.
  • Develop and implement a process for monitoring and evaluating the performance of business development initiatives, analyzing key metrics, and making datadriven recommendations for optimization.
  • Serve as the liaison for marketing initiatives, developing content, creating press releases, and partnering with Marketing to implement strategies to enhance brand visibility, engage with clients, and drive lead generation. Manage charitable giving initiatives and community involvement efforts.
  • Collaborate with the executive team to assess market trends, competitive landscape, economic factors, and industry developments to inform business strategies.
  • Support growth for the Savannah and Environmental divisions by identifying opportunities, building relationships, submitting bids, and securing contracts.
  • Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and trade shows to enhance brand visibility, establish relationships with clients and prospects, and stay abreast of market conditions and competition.
  • Maintain strong business partner relationships and provide guidance in the applicability of using respective consultants and subcontractors on appropriate opportunities.
  • Provide support in preparing for financial meetings and board meetings by developing and delivering presentations as needed.
  • Stay abreast of industry regulations, compliance standards, and best practices to ensure adherence to legal and ethical guidelines.
  • Other responsibilities assigned by Management.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s Degree, preferably in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field. Experience in a directly related field may be accepted in lieu of formal education.
  • 8+ years of experience in business development or a combination of business development and experience in related industry, such as construction or engineering.
  • Knowledge of proposal pricing, contract terminology, and agency approval process.
  • General awareness of Savannah area and local soils.
  • Experience with business development software/technology a plus.

  • An understanding of construction processes, project management principles, and industry trends relevant to the region.

  • Ability to make decisions with confidence, based on experience and knowledge of the industry.
  • Willingness to travel as needed to meet with clients, attend industry events, and visit project sites.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and salesmanship skills, with the ability to build rapport and trust with clients and stakeholders.
