Staff Software Engineer
About POSH
We are all social creatures, but the dominant “social” companies today have evolved into digital loneliness machines, driving isolation, anxiety, and mental health challenges across our lives.
Human connection is lost. Posh is a beacon guiding us back.
Posh enables anyone to become an event organizer, build a community around their followers, and bring people together in person to cultivate real-world human connections. Founded by event enthusiasts and college dropouts, we’ve built the ultimate tools for creating, marketing, and monetizing in-person communities globally. In just three years, Posh has grown to a team of 60, expanded to 5M+ users, secured $40m in venture funding, and facilitated over $220M in transactions. We've achieved more than teams ten times our size in a tenth of the time—and there's so much more to come.
About The Role
At POSH, you’ll drive the technical strategy and shape the systems that connect millions of people through live events. As a Staff Engineer, you’ll lead high-impact, cross-functional projects, influencing architecture, product direction, and organizational standards. Your leadership will extend beyond coding—you’ll mentor senior engineers, establish best practices, and help set the course for POSH’s technical evolution.
This is an in-person position at our New York City office in the heart of SoHo, where you’ll play a pivotal role in revolutionizing how people connect in the real world.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead and influence high-impact, cross-functional technical initiatives with product and engineering leadership.
Guide critical architectural decisions and shape long-term technical strategy, balancing innovation with business objectives.
Drive organizational standards for scalability, performance, security, and developer experience across multiple teams.
Mentor and grow senior engineers through coaching, workshops, and documentation; foster a culture of diverse thinking, constructive feedback, and continuous improvement.
Promote org-wide knowledge sharing, code quality, and technical excellence.
Partner with leadership to align technical initiatives with product vision and business goals.
Lead innovation in architecture, infrastructure, and product systems, ensuring adaptability as POSH scales.
Balance rapid experimentation with sustainable design, driving forward both business growth and developer productivity.
Ideal Candidate:
10+ years of experience leading complex, large-scale technical projects with broad organizational impact.
Deep expertise in one or more domains (e.g., frontend systems, backend architecture, infrastructure) with the ability to guide others across the full stack.
Proven track record shaping technical strategy and making architectural decisions that balance scalability, sustainability, and business goals.
Experience mentoring and developing senior engineers, creating structures for org-wide growth and knowledge sharing.
Strong collaboration skills with the ability to influence across technical and non-technical teams.
Proficiency in relevant technologies (e.g., React, React Native, Typescript, AWS or similar cloud providers), with strong experience in either mobile app development or backend systems.
Experience at consumer, social, or marketplace companies a plus, demonstrating alignment with POSH’s mission of user-focused community building.
