Head Baker

Knead Love Bakery is a gluten-free bakery dedicated to using organic, regional grains in naturally leavened breads, bagels, and treats. We bake with flavorful whole grains, seasonal fruits, and natural sweeteners. We strive to bake delicious, nourishing food with creativity, while supporting the local food economy. We sell year-round at the GrowNYC Greenmarket in Manhattan and Brooklyn, ship nationwide, and wholesale to select retailers.

We are seeking an experienced Head Baker to join our commissary bakery in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, to lead daily operations. The ideal candidate has at least 4 years of experience in a bakery or commercial kitchen, with strong preference given to those with production baking experience. A background in gluten-free baking is not required.

Schedule:

• Full time (40 hours per week)
• Shift hours: 6am-2pm, Monday-Friday

Responsibilities:

• Oversee daily bakery operations to keep production running smoothly and ensure all prep, baking, and quality standards are met
• Monitor inventory and order all supplies, including ingredients, paper goods, and smallwares, to keep production running smoothly
• Lead the team in maintaining a clean, organized, and safe kitchen that meets all health code and sanitation standards
• Prepare and mix doughs, and execute baking tasks in accordance with established recipes

Skills & Requirements:

• 4+ years of professional baking experience
• At least 1 year of team leadership or supervisory experience
• Solid understanding of kitchen workflow, efficiency, and time management
• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to effectively lead and guide team members
• Possess a valid NYC food handler’s permit
• Ability to stand for the duration of a full shift and lift 50+ lbs as needed
• Must be at least 18 years of age and legally authorized to work in the United States

• Knowledge/experience with vegan/gluten-free baking
• Interest in maintaining sourdoughs, working with preferments and naturally leavened breads
• Basic Spanish communication skills
