Residential RN - Queens - Brooklyn
Job Summary: The Residential RN within an OPWDD Group Home is responsible for providing nursing care to individuals with developmental disabilities who reside in group home settings. The RN will work collaboratively with other healthcare professionals and direct support staff to provide comprehensive care, promote health and safety, and ensure the well-being of individuals with developmental disabilities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide direct nursing care to individuals with developmental disabilities, including administering medications, performing assessments, and providing basic nursing procedures.
- Develop and implement individualized care plans in collaboration with individuals with developmental disabilities and their families, taking into account their cultural, social, and economic backgrounds.
- Monitor and document all aspects of care in the individual's electronic medical record, including assessments, treatments, and progress notes.
- Train and supervise direct support professionals on basic health care needs and safety measures for individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Ensure compliance with all state and federal regulations related to nursing practice, medication administration, and infection control.
- Participate in interdisciplinary team meetings and collaborate with other healthcare professionals, including physicians, psychologists, and therapists.
- Communicate with individuals with developmental disabilities, their families, and other team members to ensure that care is provided in a sensitive and respectful manner.
- Provide education and training to individuals with developmental disabilities and their families on basic health care needs, medication management, and self-care.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives, including identifying opportunities for improvement and implementing changes as needed.
Qualifications:
- Valid nursing license in the state of practice.
- Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in a clinical setting, preferably with experience in caring for individuals with developmental disabilities.
- Strong knowledge of nursing practice, medication administration, and infection control.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport with individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) preferred.
