Director of Admissions

Reporting to the Chief Enrollment and Academic Officer, the Director of Admissions is responsible for leading and directing admissions and recruitment operations, including external student recruitment and the internal management of the admissions process. The Director also leads the planning and execution of engagement and outreach efforts to promote the Oliver Scholars' mission.

The Director of Admissions should be motivated by working with youth and families from under-resourced communities and excited to work in an entrepreneurial environment that celebrates innovation and creativity. During certain times of the year, the Director may be required to work Tuesday - Saturday. During the summer program, the Director will be required to supervise scholars overnight in a residential setting.

Responsibilities
Recruitment & Admissions
  • Meet enrollment goals while upholding our commitment to recruiting students from under-resourced communities.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with a network of representatives from feeder schools, churches, civic and community-based organizations, Oliver Alumni, and other volunteers.
  • Collaborate with the Chief Development Officer and Communications & Marketing Director to develop and maintain Oliver Scholars' recruitment and marketing plan to promote the organization s visibility in the community and general recruitment efforts.
  • Deploy the department s communications plan for feeder public schools, prospective students, parents, admitted students, and other community-based institutions.
  • Speak publicly to individuals and groups, both internally and externally.
  • Assist prospective students with the admissions application process, conduct placement testing and interviews, and gather student data and transcripts from previous schools.
  • Work with the Chief Enrollment & Academic Officer to evaluate and execute admissions decisions on applicant files.
  • Manage enrollment database and develop and monitor statistical reports to enhance admissions strategies, future forecasting, operational efficiency, and enrollment initiatives.
  • Monitor enrollment trends and demographic data to identify opportunities for growth and areas needing improvement.
  • Manage registration process for admitted families.Lead recruitment efforts for Oliver Scholars.
  • Supervise the Assistant Director of Admissions.
  • Attend middle school and high school fairs/open houses.
  • Organize large mailings for all public, private, and parochial schools.
  • Research and analyze data of NYC public and charter schools.
  • Screen applications for prospective students and collaborate with the Admissions team to select applicants.
  • Manage volunteers at Oliver admissions-related events.
Scholar Support
  • Provide support during the Winter and Spring Scholar Immersion Program Classes.
  • Provide support in the planning and execution of the Summer Scholar Immersion Program.
  • Serve as an Academic Advisor during the boarding week of the Summer Scholar Immersion Program.
Other Duties
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines.
  • Event planning experience.
  • Demonstrated strong written communication skills to disseminate program direction and philosophy and relate to applicants, parents, and organizations.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team player.
  • Proficient in Google Suite, Microsoft Suite, and Professional Office applications,
  • Collaborate with other program directors as needed on Scholar-related initiatives.
  • Participate in Oliver s organizational and fundraising efforts as requested (e.g., providing content for grant proposals, funder visits, and Annual Gala).
  • Assist with projects and other duties as needed and requested within the organization.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • The successful candidate should be able to serve as an articulate spokesperson for Oliver Scholars' mission and values.
  • A deep understanding of the broad educational issues facing educational systems and students in under-resourced communities.
  • Possess high energy, organizational skills, and interpersonal skills.
  • Bachelor s degree required. Master s degree preferred.
  • A minimum of 5-6 years experience working with students and families at another student-focused nonprofit, in K-12 or higher-ed.
  • Analyze recruitment-related data and assess admissions activities as part of an overall strategic enrollment planning initiative.
  • Experience working with diverse populations.
  • Outstanding public speaking and writing skills.Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively.
  • Able and willing to work some late evenings and weekends and a Tuesday - Saturday schedule, at times, during the year.
  • Bilingual/bi-literate in English and Spanish encouraged.
  • Familiarity with schools, independent and highly selective public schools.
  • Valid driver s license and ability to travel domestically.

Requirements
Authorized to work in the US without sponsorship
Minimum 3 years' experience working with students and families in either a non-profit, K-12 or higher-ed setting
Able and willing to work some late evenings and weekends
Able and willing to work a Tuesday - Saturday schedule, at times, during the year
During Summers, able and willing to supervise scholars overnight in a residential setting
Accept a background check to be performed
Willing to travel across 5 NYC boroughs
Minimum Bachelors Degree
Spanish
